my old 65 ambulance history

there was a car show in town today and I went and had a look. no 60-66.
there was a fellow there with a caddy ambulance so I went and talked to him; asked him if he knew of anyone who would be looking for some gurneys. He bought them, he pulled out this book on ambulances and there was a picture of it. prior to the picture it was orig brought in by the Victoria fire dept as an ambulance which explains why the firewall was painted red and some red paint showing through elsewhere.

That is too cool. To see a 40+ year old picture of something you currently own has to be a thrill. What are your plans for it?

I like the little details, black mirror head, blacked out spot in the center of the hood, but interesting, the inner structure of the hood appears to be body color, and the 55 chev 210 hubcaps.

always interesting. there is a book that has been published on Canadian ambulances and their history . there were other 60-66 in there.
I found out about it's service and changing hands in service and afterwards.. the prov of b.c.took over the ambulance service in the early 70's and standardized it so it put all of the independents out. so after that this ambulance wet to Vernon or Kelowna and later came back to the island. the guy was going to restore it, but they wanted $30,000.00 to do it. toast. he gave me the name of the retard that cut the signs out of the doors
I do have the protect-o-plate for it and it did belong to the city of Victoria

it had already been through one paint job as this picture. orig painted red for fire dept. and they perhaps replaced things with what was handy as one didn't get overnight service on parts in the early 60's. it was painted once more with blue bottom for Garden Transport( they had the one ambulance plus buses and others). it ended up having painted chevy(65-66 style) in the above picture
