I still have a scar from an unguarded cut off wheel incident, took a year or so for my finger to work normally

I had the same problem with a stainless shrinking disc. It's amazing how much damage a 10'' spinning stainless disc can do. I also proved that I do have cat like reflexes

If the big cutoff wheel works well maybe I can retire mine to a shelf in the back, too. Along with the big work gloves I wear when I use it.

how about taking it to a frame shop and having it done rite ? took mine there and came back perfect, just my .02

Well, Arturo7 What's the plan. After reading the other posts I think I would make a relief cut where the metal stretched when it was bent or heat the stretched areas red hot and then straighten the frame horn out.

If you use the 4 or 4-1/2 inch cut off disks don't use the super thin ones as those are the ones that usually come apart when a guy is cutting something. I've had a lot better luck with the 1/16" 4-1/2 inch staying together then the .030 disks.

Keep us posted on your progress and take a few photos of what and how you do it.

Those thing spin at 16-22K rpm. I wear a face shield and all the gouges are a testiment to how much stuff gets thrown around. I used to only use googles until I got a piece of wood embededed in my check from the table saw kicking back.

I believe I will try the notch and bend method. I stopped in at a frame shop and got a price of $95/hr with a two hour minimum. 190 bucks buys quite a few grinding wheels. Plenty to sail around the work area...

I worked with a guy who lost an eye to a 3.5" cutoff wheel. No guard, only a cheap pair of safety glasses for protection. But the number one istake he made... the wheel had a chip in it when he picked it up but he used it anyway. If there's any chance the integrity of a cutting wheel's been compromised, throw it out!

Agreed! And you can still call the frame guys to fix it if you don't like your results!

The measurement of frame should be 34 inches across outside to outside if looking at it straight a head, make a jig out of angle iron before you dice and slice. I would try a porter power on the frame against a beam or something solid like a tree with a little heat and what was said before relief cuts.

So I had a frame guy take a look at it today.

He suggested I beat it with a sledge...

better first buy a new tape measure and the assembly manual before you use a BFH on it. measure the frame and find out where the actual bend starts and mark it and write down how far it is over or under the measurement needed. getting reference point at the beginning is critical an in same direction always. Heat is your friend here and i have used my 18" cresent with heat having the helper running the torch also run the tape measure while i pull on bent area

Actually, the guy advised against using heat. He said it compromises the integrity of the steel.

On the bright side, I may have access to an hydraulic press. Not sure of the size, though.

The steel in those frames is low carbon and heat wont hurt it. if it wter high carbon heat
will anneal it.making it soft.
If the heat caused problems fram failures would be common around here!
