I have the protect o plate for a 65 chevy truck I have. Does anyone know what the engine code f1228w z and the transmission code m1230 mean?

Re: protect o plate decoding
I found this in the owners manual. The plate down by the drivers side kick panel has been painted. So it came with a 283? and a three speed?. The axle code is he1228w

Re: protect o plate decoding
Hello corvetejim . The axle is a 3.73 std axle now your engine number is it 2 letter at the end or 3 . "tf" i show it as a 250 engine 4 speed tranny hd clutch that is for engine "tf" . Does that look right to you? Also i show it for a 1966 chevy truck

Re: protect o plate decoding
Yes mine is a 1/2 ton. If it came out with a 283 I have one sitting beside it on an engine stand that I am going to put back in it. I just thought it came out with a 6 and was going to put in a 350

Re: protect o plate decoding
Corvettejim if it is "tfb" i show it as a 1972 350 van or bus or 1980 and 1982 van and bus and conv cab 4 barrel carb 350 c-10 1500 and c10-2500 truck manual trans . If you have the three letter code . This is what comes up . What year is your truck? Was the engine replaced?.

Re: protect o plate decoding
It is very hard to tell what came in the early year trucks the vin does not tell .sometimes you need to look at the engine mounts , but those can be changed . Sometimes the vin can tell you the month built and the motor date will line up . You are probably have the original motor if they are close unless somebody knows to get a close date code motor . The protecto plate in the owners manual will match the pad number on the block . Then you know its the right motor . But many times the protecto plate is gone to check this .

Re: protect o plate decoding

Re: protect o plate decoding
thank you much better. From the plate the engine was built in flint. motor was in the factory and stamped dec 07 1964 "WE"is the engine code shows 283 with powerguilde. the axle was stamped dec 04 1964 the "HA" shows 3.73 . exc. positraction for a c14 shortbox built in warren plant. paint code 533 is light green and off - white . i do not have a breakdown on the trans . but from the engine code it is a pg. stamped dec 03 1964 the "c" might refer to Cleveland . your truck was assembled in St Louis .it was the 29984th truck built on that line for 1965 model year.
