what is this?

ok I had issues of no cranking and this was my issue. it was pushed in and having it extended out allows truck to start. Can some one explain to me more what this thing does exactly?

Also could this cause why I can't get truck to run? it ran out of diesel, so I'm assuming I need to purge the system?

Re: what is this?

Looks like the safety switch for the clutch pedal.

When you try to get it running again, pull the glow plugs until you see misting of diesel from the glow plug holes. This will reduce the load on the starter and you won't kill your batteries as quick.

Yea x2 it looks like a neutral safety switch to me as well. That sucks it got ran outta diesel. Yea make sure you got fuel up to the motor first or your gonna kill the poor starter. Good luck.
