Parasitic Draw
Hey folks! My 86 has been sucking down batteries while sitting, I show a .75 amp draw with the ignition off. I pulled every fuse, and no change. I also pulled the accessories the PO and wired into the fuse panel, also nothing. Alternator shows a healthy 14.5 v across the battery when running, but I have to unplug the battery when she sits. Any ideas?

Are the door ajar switches tripped? Lights on? That will cause that much draw on the meter. If those circuits are open try disconnecting the alternator. I have seen the internal regulator faulty and cause a draw. Or does it have an aftermarket radio? If so, disconnect it and recheck draw.

If you already pulled each fuse while checking for a draw with no change, and you are certain you don't have a door jamb or glove box switch open (which should have shown up on the fuse tests anyway) then I would do as Silvereagle suggested and unplug the alternator and recheck. I have had bad diodes in the alternator draw from the battery while sitting.

I had this problem over the weekend. The battery has been draining down on me for a while. Was charging fine while driving but during the night the dash voltage meter in the dash would show around 11 volts. Let her sit for 2 days and it was sitting around 10. So Friday I decided to start finding the cause, even tho when it comes to electrical I'm not the brighest bulb shining. Put it on a charger and brought it up to a full charge the night before and disconnected the alternator to eleminate a bad diode. Friday morning it was low again so the alternator wasn't to blame. Brought it back up to full charge again. Pulled the power wire from the stereo (aftermarket) since it pulled enough power to keep the clock set. Disconnected the negative battery cable and connected a test light between the - post and the cable end. And the light lit up which meant I did have an open curcuit somewhere. Watching the light, I started pulling fuses. Still lit. Pulled relays to fans and fuel pump. Nothing yet. To simplfy things, instead of getting under the seat and pulling the fuses from the amps I just unhooked the power wires from the junction box. The light went out! hooked one of them back up and no light. Unhooked that one and then the other. The light came back on. So until I find out why the amp is doing this I just left it unplugged. Battery hasn't skipped a beat since.
Hope your problem is something as simple as this.
