8 lug disc brake upgrade
I have searched and read alot about the disc brake upgrade, but I found something that I am still unsure about. I have found a 1992 8 lug Chevy van. Can I use the front discs from this van to convert my 1969 C20? If so, what parts from the van do I need for the swap? I know the 73-87 truck stuff swaps, but I think the van platform continued on into the 90's before a revamp- so I kinda think it is the same stuff as the 73-87 trucks.
Can I use the rotors/calipers/spindles(?) and my factory 69 a-arms? Or do I need the whole a-arm/spindle/rotor/caliper setup? What about hoses? And MC? I have a power brake booster setup from a 69 3/4 that I haven't installed yet- if it would work with this swap (originally had planned to just add power to the drums and roll with that til I found a disc swap candidate).

Re: 8 lug disc brake upgrade
lolife99- you're just the guy to answer my questions I think, thanks for chiming in! In my research, the van platform used suspension/brake parts from the truck platform- and the design didn't change til 97. So, I am pretty sure the 92 front suspension is the same as would be found on a 73-87 truck. If anybody knows for sure that would be great. If so, what parts would I need to pull? Gonna have to do this in a field with no power or air tools.

I know nothing about swapping van parts.
Just my opinion,... You are swapping used drum parts for used disc parts. Do you have any plans to rebuild anything? Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 8 lug disc brake upgrade
i would replace ball joints and such at minimum. If these parts are the same as the 73-87 trucks- what ball joints would I need? What else are you thinking would need replacing?

Re: 8 lug disc brake upgrade
My opinion.
You need the spindle only. Everything else needs to be new. Rotors, calipers, brake pads, bearings, brake hoses, master cylinder and prop valve. If you use 73-87 parts you will need all the steering and balljoints. Posted via Mobile Device
