help with lineloc
I installed a Jegs lineloc on my 70 1/2 ton 2wd which has stock power drum brakes. The truck has all new brakes and stops very well but the lineloc won't hold the truck well enough to do a decent burnout. I'd like to think it is because it hooks up so well w/ the 315/60R15's , posi w/ 3:54 and 700r-4 but I'm sure it has to do with brakes. I'm suspect of the porportioning valve but I don't know anything about them or how they work. I didn't replace the mastercylinder when I rebuilt the truck if that is a clue. Any ideas??????
As always thanks in advance for your input.

I had a friend who installed a lineloc and had the same problem you are having. He ended up getting a new master cylinder and booster. It solved the problem. We ruled out everything except the proportioning valve.
Hope you get it figured out. David

I've got a line lock on my truck (400SB, 700R4, Auburn LSD, 3.73 gears, 245/55/15 tires), and with manual drum brakes it has no problem at all holding my truck back during a burnout even on dry pavement.
The proportioning valve shouldn't matter. And if there was some problem with your brakes, I think you would notice during normal braking. I wonder if you have it hooked up wrong or maybe you are using it wrong. Where do you have the solenoid valve in your brake system?

Truck is in getting final paint so I don't have pic's of it complete but these will give you the idea. They are BFG Drag radials. I'm running them mainly to fill up the rear wheel wells as I don't want to lower the truck any more. Don't get me wrong I can spin the heck out of em but I'd like to be able to hold the truck back w/ the lineloc. I ran a 14.6 @92MPH 1st time out.

this happens alot with these...
make sure you pump the brakes up good.... not just one pump and let go.... stomp on it hard..... Last edited by rage'nrat638; 07-12-2007 at 07:08 AM. |

Mike , I pump the brakes 2 or 3 times hold them down hard ,push the button , release the brake pedal and then release the button and spin out of the box. I think this is correct???

no you hold the button and do your burn out....
as soon as you release the button the brakes are then released.... its good the have the button close so you don't have to lay down to push it.... |

Or maybe set the lock and disconnect the line between the master cylinder and the loc and see if it is back bleeding. I'll let you know . By the way whats your truck run. I've got a 10 sec. BBC Chevelle that I get serious w/.
