I used Hagerty, they were much less expensive and very easy to deal with. I am very pleased with them. $30,000 plus liabilaty $310.00 per year...yikes I am going to build more old trucks just on the insurance savings.... yes you can rationalize anything. Kieth

Did you mean to say "can't" drive them regularly?

I have Hagerty Insurance on my truck and it is very inexpensive. Only way to go! But you do have to show proof that you also have an insured daily-driver vehicle. Other than that they say they encourage you to drive your classic vehicle when ever you want.

They never asked me for my mileage at the start of the policy. I guess they know that these trucks can say one thing today and something a lot less tomorrow.

Hagerty here too. They are great. Had a rock hit on my brand new windshield on 63. Sent me a check, no questions asked. The cost of the new windshield installed was 2-3 times more than my yearly premium and they did not raise it one cent. Highly recommended.

As for insurance, I use State Farm Antique full coverage for 7 bux a month. Anything goes missing and they send me a check. Anything goes boom and they send me a check. Anyone steals any of my backup parts and they send me a check.

I submitted a quote request to a few places, and had 2 say that they refused ANY collector or antique or hobbyist covereage to me, because almost two years ago, I was hit (in a different vehicle, not my fault, and I didn't claim anything because I have 1 side coverage)....wtf is that about.

As for Haggerty, I was quoted more than $850, which is bloody effing rediculous. (no tickets in over 5 years, that was the only accident ever)

If you didn't claim anything, did you just tell them about the accident? Maybe that's the problem. No claim = it didn't happen.
Also, are you young? (under 25)
That can kill your premiums too if you're unmarried and under 25 because you're in a statistically high risk crowd.

Great thread! Potentially extremely valuable information to anyone who owns a classic vehicle. The info we need most is not just how much you pay for your coverage, but how your insurer handled your claims. Cheap insurance is great unless you get jacked when it's time to make THEM pay!
I personally have had no claims in 12 years with Hagerty, so I can't offer much help, other than to say it's kind of a pain that ALL my vehicles insured with them must be kept in a locked garage when not in use to be eligible. I think that is maybe an industry wide rule though.

I also have Hagerty. Less than a year of having them as my insurer the windshield got broken on my 71 Caddy Hearse $1,200.00 to replace it and they didn't bat an eye. I have 3 collector vehicles with them, full coverage with 0 deductible and pay less than $300.00 a year for all three BUT I have my 62 Pontiac torn apart and moved it to builder status. My wife and I are are in our late 50's with 2 daily drivers insured through another insurance company. My wife did have an accident 2 years ago (her faut) in her daily driver and totaled it. Hagerty went up about $25 or so I'm guessing because of that. Neither one of us have any tickets and there are no other people in our household. So far I'm happy with Hagerty.

I have my truck insured with the SoCal Auto Club collector car insurance. It's presently in the body shop for repair of some minor damage and I would rate the claims service as 12 on a scale of one to ten.

Got mine thru my local agent that has my personal and business ins. Declared value and expected miles driven. Very cheap.

My '66 is a daily driver and sits on the street. All mechanical is finally complete and will be going to the body shop for paint soon. I was going to look for "Classic" insurance as I will have close to $27K in it when it's all said and done. (even though these things are never done). When I'm out of town for more than a day or two, it gets moved into the driveway. It never sits in a locked garage. Will this prohibit me from getting insurance?

Not to dispute the claim that ordinary insurance companies will pay agreed value but I had state farm and ask them about agreed value , they said they will only cover book value and nothing more. Yes the insurance was cheap $104.00 a yr but who cares when book value is way less than it's real value.

I doubt that you will find a "classic" or "collector car" insurance carrier that will insure you if the vehicle is not kept in a garage.

So it was considered a No Fault accident, because it happened on private property, and in the police report no citations were issue, (even though she t-boned me, because it was in a private mall lot, we were told the cop couldn't issue her a ticket). What I'm told is the other driver had full coverage with the SAME insurance company as me....in their eyes even though it was her fault, SHE had a claim and I did not (I had injury ins only).
When they paid her the claim, it was "Against" me...yet my "risk" with the insurance company hasn't gone up...my rates have not changed, even with a recent renewal...even so...this all happened almost 2 years ago. I just found the person with Chubb fairly rude...its not like I had mutliple accidents and citations in recent times....1 no fault accident years ago.
Im 27 with an otherwise spotless record, and other insured vehicles with no claims. Its not a big deal, just frustrating.

I only traded 3 hunting rifles f/ Ol John Lee - so low investment. So far I get more value as a daily driver (10K miles in past 11 montnths) than repair costs to keep it running safe. Its been a marvelous deal for me. So, liability insurance only w/USAA.
