Potentially horrifying discovery...
Have a set of drop spindles laying around that I took off my shortbed and replaced with a set of Belltech units. They were covered in grease when I took them off so I never really got a good look at them. Took them to work and hot tanked them. When I pulled them out, it looked as though they were "fabricated" spindles. That is to say, there are visible weld marks where somebody obviously welded them together. There are no identifying marks other than a part number that reads 264GM11N.
Are there any manufacturers out there that produce "welded" spindles or are these some kind of horrific freakshow home made units? I have them up on CL, but I don't want to sell them to someone if they're cobbled together death units. |

Re: Potentially horrifying discovery...
they are all one piece cast iron, thats scary. i would worry about them cracking right allong side the weld in the heat effected zone. welding cast iron like thats is just asking fro trouble, who knoes how they did it

Re: Potentially horrifying discovery...
Haha not the first time I've seen something as such done like this
That must have been done way back pre drop spindles time. I'm betting whoever did do it knew very much of what they were doing. I'm sure no Sane person would do so. Looks like the welds are sound and done with a arc welder and prob stress relieved and such. I doubt the are horrendously unsafe but why not replace them and feel better Posted via Mobile Device

Wow, that's a big risk just to save $250. It's amazing what some guys will do to save a few bucks to lower their trucks. Good thing you caught it before something bad happened.

Yeah, I'd hate it, but I'd have to throw them away.

Re: Potentially horrifying discovery...
X2....IF they were from any manufacturers, the welds would've been a lot cleaner than that. That's definetly a homemade project

do not sell those, in fact I would cut them in half and junk them just to make sure someone else never used them
