Leaves in cowl and heater
My '67 burb is a Daily Driver, and is usually parked in the driveway (since I have no garage). I get all kinds of leaves and pine needles falling into the cowl and through to the heater box. So, short of fabbing a new cowl with a different type of air intake, what can I do to keep the garbage out? Can I seal it off with some kind of solid material such as plexi-glass or sheet metal and still have a working heater in the winter?

Most of the vendors that sell parts for these trucks have prefabbed screens to keep the debris out. Pop the cowl off, put screen in place, reattach cowl. You can also make your own out of heavy screen material.

Thanks, Lee! I'll look a little harder for these. I've seen them for other cars like the '67 Mustang I'm restoring for the original owner, but never for '67-'72 trucks.

Didn't see them in Brothers print catalog. I found them in Early Classics catalog, but the online listing doesn't give any kind of description for installation. I'd like to find some that go inside the cowl panel to keep it looking clean. I also need to find some for my fiance's '69 Nova.
I'll have to try some online catalogs. |

Before 'prefabs' were available my dad just bought some screen, removed the cowl and marinetex'd (I believe) it on the underside and it's been there for forty years. Oh yeah, he is the original owner.

you van use to types the cloth one or the old alum screen Most of the guys i have love the screen meteral cus it hides it self lets very little water in but breath very well

I used screen from a dinosaur dish (Painted to match) and glued 2 pieces to the bottom with polyurethane caulk.

Very nice, notsolo! I need a finer mesh though. We have pine trees around our house that have real fine and small needles. I'm thinking I'll need something more like window screen.
