setup im looking to do in 49 truck. opinions?

if funds are all right im gonna invest in a 4bt cummins and use my 1 ton 79 axles 4x4 axles. unsure of tranny i know a turbo 350 will mount to them but might have to do some looking to see if a 700R4 will work. gonna put 20 in rims with 8 bolt pattern and put some military grade tires on it either humvee tires or gonna run the duece and a half tires. then im gonna have a local shop build me a 50 gallon fuel tank. any input on what you guys think. any ideas on how to improve or change around

TH350 and 700r4 are the same pattern. Advanced adapters has a plate fro 4bt to GM trans. Spline is 27 out for driveshafts. Sounds like a cool build.

The older trucks that run those engines run Turbo 400's most of the time. The newer ones run Allison transmissions though.

A nice used 50 gal fuel tank should be real easy to find in one of the junkyards that specializes in big-rigs.

Im gonna build a custom flatbed for it. and the local shop said that they could build me a decently priced fuel tank because i want to build it into the flat bed. thinking maybe part of my headache rack. so its centered in the frame.
Another opinion would it be better to buy a cheaper 4bt and pay to rebuild it or buy a already rebuilt motor? oh and i forgot to mention im planning on putting a turbo on the 4bt

Please don't use the 700 behind that diesel. There's a reason GM only used them for a couple of years and they weren't really that successful.

whats the gearing in the allison gonna be like compared to the 700. im kinda looking for something that will still give me decent mileage. i know the big tires kinda kills that. i dont remeber who exactly i talked to but he was running a 4bt in his 4 door wrangler with 38's and pulling a camper or some kind of trailer he was getting 28 mpg

First let me say I like the idea and it would make for an awesome truck. I am saying that partly because I kinda' want to do the same thing but also it just seems to make sense for a heavy duty driver.

I purchased a 2000 dodge with low miles (120k) but the tranny was shot. This truck had pulled a 30 ft. travel trailer about 110K miles. They claim the 47re is weak but many of these trucks have been used and some abused. The aftermarket can make these transmissions very durable. I not sure if the 47re will fit the 4bt, but they are supposedly the same engine minus 2 cylinders.

I am driving the Dodge now and looking for a 47-53 cab. I need to finish my 3100 before moving to another project.

My dodge gets about 22-24 mpg (at 65-70) on the highway but it has to be in over drive (it weighs 7k lbs). I really think you need a trans with OD to get the mileage.

If you do not already have the motor have you thought about an older 12V- 5.9? I see the motor and trans for sale on Craigslist for reasonably prices. The older ones do not have electronics. I am not sure of the year model but I sure you could google that. I do understand using the 4bt if you want something different or if you already have it.

Thanks but i think im gonna pass i really want to build mine from scratch so i can have the custom built fuel tank be part of my headache rack on the flatbed but thanks for the offer
