fix or replace?
My '89 suburban's roof is in bad shape....see pic. I did discover a hole from rust and am sure there will be more.....Should I fix the roof(and how?) or just replace the vehicle?
I do have the chance to pick up this crewcab dually for $400,no engine and has about $800 in past due registration fees. Thought of getting it and taking the 454 from the 'burb and putting it in the dually. What do you guys think?

Re: fix or replace?
Lots of bubbles in paint on sub. Dually looks pretty good and I think those old duallys are just becoming popular and will be harded to get later on.

Re: fix or replace?
I would go with the dually. Take the good parts off the burb that will transfer over when you need them.

Re: fix or replace?
As much as I love Suburbans, and think they too are disappearing to a point since so many are being used as work crew materials and equipment hauling trucks and get trashed beyond worth restoring... I vote for the crew.
Remember, at least one small hole was letting rusty water leak into the inside panels on the truck. That means that, some years down the line, you have a greatly increased chance of random rust popping up in crazy places. Unless there is sentimental attachment to the burb, go with the rust free option that wont have body headaches down the road. |

Re: fix or replace?
Goin with the dually....Thanks guys. I hate to part with my 'burb, but I would be better off with the truck. I will probably keep most of the blue interior from the 'burb and replace the tan stuff in the truck.

Re: fix or replace?
Well, the guy with the dually will not return my calls...So, how hard is it to replace the roof? I do know that it is single wall roof.

Re: fix or replace?
Basicly grind down the roof see how much rust you have to remove,Find a doner suburban to cut the part of the roof off you need and cut it out.Depending how deep the rust is it can be just the skin or structural if its structural then you need to brace up the roof before cutting.

Re: fix or replace?
if it is just pin holes you can use panle bonding glue. workd great. if there are bigger holes just weld in patches as needed you can use a old hood and make them your self. but i would also buy the dolly and do that as i could
