Whose Seat Belts Are You Using?

It's time to get some seat/shoulder belts in my '55.

I know some guys use wrecking yard belts and I'm interested in what has worked for you & the cost, but I am currently weighing using a kit from Juliano's at $99 per person including installation hardware:

http://www.julianos.com/3_point_belt_bench.html

VS. using THESE from an eBay seller which are $38 plus installation hardware:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1951-1959-Ch...item27cf99a0d6

If you have photos of how you did yours, so much the better!

Re: Whose Seat Belts Are You Using?

You might look at Wesco Performance. Got mine from them, 3pt good hardware and $65 each. I think someone has covered the blind hole for the shoulder strap on here, but I can give you pic's of where I drilled holes and welded in captive nuts to make mine work. I still have to do interior so mine aren't installed but they have been fabbed and trial fit before paint.

I'm gonna check out that Wesco site, this is something I want to upgrade to myself.

Re: Whose Seat Belts Are You Using?

Oh, thanks very much for the head's up on Wesco. I'll defintely check them out.

Yes, if you have dimensions for the location of the shoulder hole I'd love to have them. Better yet if you can post a photo?

Anyone else have sources not mentioned yet?

Re: Whose Seat Belts Are You Using?

I used the rear seat belts out of an Isuzu Trooper. The rear seat belts out almost any SUV should work and they will look like they have less wear and are in better shape. I still had to fab some mounts so it may be easier to buy them.

Re: Whose Seat Belts Are You Using?

I bought mine from Beams in Oklahoma City -- seatbelts.net. They've been in business since 1953. They have several styles and a bunch of colors.

Re: Whose Seat Belts Are You Using?

I bought a kit from Juliano's. I could have probably saved some money by fabbing stuff myself.....but this kit sure was slick.

Welded all in place in a couple hours.

Re: Whose Seat Belts Are You Using?

Coach,
I had pretty much planned to use Juliano's too until Speedbumpauto posted that lead about Wesco. It LOOKS like their kits are the same (how can you really know?) for $70 less a pair. I can afford the $70, but hey $70 is $70. I'm sure sure I can fine something I need for that!

Re: Whose Seat Belts Are You Using?

My seat belts are in the same place my turn signals are...a newer truck. I agree they are safer, but I have never worn one in any vehicle. Yesterday I took the suburban on a road trip with the fellas to the Salem Roadster show. Everyone piled in at the pick up spot, shut the door and as I drove off they all asked " where are the belts"? I stopped and asked if anyone was uncomfortable riding up and if so we would turn around. Didn't have a taker in the group. From there it was 5 guys trying to decide which donor rig they were going to use to find belts for the middle and rear seats of the burb so they could continue riding along on the weekends.

Re: Whose Seat Belts Are You Using?

Newfisher, I've gotta have seat belts. I'm just not comfortable without them anymore. And frankly, I don't know why you wouldn't use them if you have them?

As a CHP officer friend of mine once told me, ""I've never unbuckled a dead body from a wreck." I'm sure it's happened but it isn't common.

Brian, Thanks for that lead. Going to check them out now!

Re: Whose Seat Belts Are You Using?

If you go to Pamona look up GEM, George is his name, he has a big trailer with fold out wings and sells his wares from a window in the middle of the trailer. He stocks a lot of hot rod parts and I have bought seat belts from him at a good price

Re: Whose Seat Belts Are You Using?

Oh cool. The next Pomona swap meet is only 3 weeks away (3/3) so that could work. Care to post his price?

So far, Wesco has the best price. Some of the other leads don't have especially easy-to-use sites or the site doesn't provide a price.

I'm also liking the idea of SUV rear seat belts/harnesses.

Re: Whose Seat Belts Are You Using?

I don't remember BUT I would not have bought them if they were not reasonable!!!!
I think it was the best price I had seen, but I did have to drive 500 miles and a few overnight worth in a motel, but that can not be used in the cost right !

Re: Whose Seat Belts Are You Using?

I just called Ecology Auto Parts (biggest local wrecker for those not in CA). They quote $30 each for SUV belts. Good price but cause I'm a cheap bastard ill take a look at Craigslist for a large SUV being parted out. Ha ha, hoping for $5-$10... or "just take 'em" price. I can use the spare cash on plenty else on my truck.

Re: Whose Seat Belts Are You Using?

Crossfire - Someone over on the HAMB has a signature
line that reads something:

"If Necessity is the Mother of Invention, then Poverty is the Mother of Necessity"

I'm not impoverished but why tempt fate? Ha ha.
Seat belts ARE a safety item, and I try to be safe but lightly used rear seat belts from a major manufacturer would seem to be a very safe bet for low bucks. At least I think so as long as I do a careful installation.

Ok, Googled LKQ and found them. $100(!!) a side for Tahoe belts. Now I know why you chose a Durango, huh?

Re: Whose Seat Belts Are You Using?

LKQ is a chain salvage company. We have two of them side by side here in Tulsa. One you go in and tell them what you want and THEY go get it, from newer cars, at greater cost. The other is a U pull it type, all the cars are older, and it is cheaper. I chose Durango because the belts are a little longer than most so they reach all the way to the floor to mount, and because I found the right charcoal color. I looked for some in the GM section first but the general let me down because S10 belts were too short. Had the same problem with S10 beds when looking for a bed floor, Dakota beds are longer. My door pull handles are out of the same durango off the pillar. I seem to have an unusual number of dodge parts in my GMC...

OKGMC4,

Does it have a rash ?

Could you take a couple pics of your belts/door for us visual learners?

Thanks, Bill (Mac the Yankee)
