Fuel lines for 5.3

I'm really only starting to research what to do about fuel lines for my 5.3 swap. Looks like most people go the AN fittings and line route. Is there any reason to NOT double flare the stock 5.3 fuel lines after the flex line, and then run standard parts-store grade 3/8 and 5/16 hard lines back to the tank? Seems as if a double flare can hold up for a braking system, it should be more than enough for 58PSI fuel system. Not interested in bling, just functional and safe.

Is this a good idea/bad idea, and why? Thanks!

Not a bad idea at all. I've been doing it this way for years with absolutley no problems.

Re: Fuel lines for 5.3

I'm running 3/8 feed and 5/16 hard line for about 85% of my system. I only have stainless braided line for a foot or so at the rails, and off the tank.

This is basically what I did with mine. 3/8" hard line with double flares except at the tank filters and engine.

I read through your build, nice work on keeping the cost down! Do you just use "normal" parts store compression fittings or are they something special?

Re: Fuel lines for 5.3

I just got mine going two weeks ago, ran the entire fuel system hard lined, with all standard compression fittings and lines from Baxter Auto parts. they werent even double flared because I didnt want to spend the money for a fancy double flareing tool. Only leak I encountered was at the post filter fitting that I forgot to seal with teflon tape.

Re: Fuel lines for 5.3

You are not supposed to use Teflon Tape on gasoline lines.
There is a special hydraulic and gas compatible tape but its not the usual hardware store stuff. Tef tape dissolves.

Yes, I used normal parts store compression fittings. The brass fittings with the brass ferrules will crimp down a piece of stainless fuel line, so I don't for see any problems, and it's running and nothing is leaking, but I haven't had this truck on the road as of yet. Also I agree with BR3W, I don't use teflon tape on gas lines, or any flare fittings.

Re: Fuel lines for 5.3

Is anybody using Nylon fuel lines similar to the OEM lines on newer cars and trucks?

This kit seems to be popular and pretty cheap compared to some of the other options out there:

Any feedback on this?

Re: Fuel lines for 5.3

I was looking at the same kit from tooltopia.com for $136 and free shipping.
"S.U.R.& R. nylon fuel line kit #KP1200"
But I do like the idea of a solid line with the ability to have some type of a flexible hose on both ends.
Sorry I ain't smart enought to post a link...

Re: Fuel lines for 5.3

Sorry i didnt take any pics. I was pretty happy with the kit. I did have to buy a fitting that wasnt in the kit (i forget the number). Other than that it was complete, right down to the tubing cutter and clamping tool.
