I have owned 4.8 and 5.3 new Tahoes, Yukons, Sivlerados. Sierras, etc., and there is a difference in acceleration ability with the 5.3. If you kick down the accelerator on the 5.3 will take off a bit faster. However, in daily easy driving, especially in the city, there is no difference in performance. I would say gas mileage is about 2 mpg better in the city with the 4.8. I tried to get 3.42 rear axle ratio (or lower) on those new vehicles and got 15.5 city/18.5 highway on my last 2010 ext. cab. Sierra with 3.23 (I think) rear axle ratio.
