Please help me identify my I6!

Ok, my apologies in advance because this has probably been covered here a million times over. I just can't seem to figure out anything other than it's a 230-250 out of a 64-76 Chevy/Olds. The engine is currently in my 63 C10 long bed.

Here's the casing number:

3921968

Here's the numbers on the pad near the distributor:

F0527CCG
2 L527678

Here's the numbers back by the starter:

CON2
E260

I'm hoping I put O's where they are supposed to be and zero's where they are supposed to be. Any help is much appreciated!

Would have come off foundry conveyer 2 built in May 26, 1970 (E260). Can you get a number off the head? Might help narow it down some. My guess is being built that late its probably a 250. My numbers show 64-76 chevy/old 230/250, which you already knew.

Re: Please help me identify my I6!

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the responses and research! Based on the fuel pump that was on it when I bought it, I'm going with a 250 for now. 1963 C-10, I agree that it's probably a 250 and I will take down the numbers off of the head the next time I have the valve cover off.

The only difference I can find externally is the fuel pump is closer to the distributer on the 230, the fuel pump on the 250 is towards the center of the motor...Vernski

Re: Please help me identify my I6!

I have a picture in my build thread of a known 250. Well bored over now its more like a 252 ;p

My understanding was the only way to tell was physically measure the bore, or was it stroke???

Either way I think physically they are the same motor.

Oh btw, new to this side, I was just a 69-72 guy, but rescently picked up a 3/4 ton, 66 GMC.. Long step.

Your engine originaly came from a 1970 Impala Chevelle Camaro and or Nova. The CCG code only shows up as 250 Six Cylinder 155 horse power with a manual transmission. This is straight from a 1971 Chevrolet parts book. Normaly the suffix code only shows up for one body style but not this one.

Vernsky, get the bifocals out you were comparing a 250 to a 292, I could see no difference in the 230 vs 250 ha ha Kieth

Thanks 60-66! Sounds like I'm the proud owner of a 250! Definitely good to know for future parts, etc.
