swapping in a van frontend - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I posted this in the 67-72 message board because I thought I would get more responses, but I guess I will try it here now. I found a complete front crossmember off of a chevy van and am wondering if parts of it will bolt to my 69. I don't what year van it is off of. The junkyard owner said that it would work under my truck if I just used the lower control arms and brake parts, but not the actual crossmember. He gave me a price of 150. So, do you think that this would work for my truck? I have a 69 3/4 ton. I am trying to put in 5 lug disc brakes and want to lower the front end a little with lowering spindals. Does it sound like a good price?

Brad, while i cant offer any help with the van front end specs, i do have a complete front suspension off of my 82, which i am parting out. i know that it will bolt right in, and you'll only have to drill 1 extra hole. i also have a set of Energy Suspension bushings that i'd be willing to part with. if the van front end doesnt work out make me an offer.

Cool!! It would be great to get parts off of a truck that would definitely work, until now I just haven't been able to find anything that is nearby and easy access. Would those drop spindals and springs you had listed fit the 82 frontend?

yes, that's what i bought them for.

i've already got the suspension disassembled and everything. needs the general going through, as would any used front end. ball joints and maybe bushings. other than that everything is in good shape

Everything is the same from the a-arms out. Use the correct tierod ends for your year (inner), and the correct tie rods from the donor (outer).

Some of the chevy vans (G10's I think...) have 5 x 4.75 bolt patterns instead of 5 x 5 so make sure you check the bolt pattern. Its so easy to do with truck parts, I think I'd stick with them instead of van parts unless you get them real cheap...

70-85 g10 vans use the c10 rotors. Don't know how the bolt circle changes.....?

no worries, he's got an 82 C10 front end to go under it now. i delivered it last weekend.

Pre 75 1/2 ton g10's had 5x4.75, can't back it up right now but I'm pretty sure this is right...
