Re: What is your top speed? Post your MPH and Setup!

I'm not willing to go my top speed and find out. I've got 2.73;s and a 700R4. Only willing to go about 85 before the front end starts floating around. Turning about 1,850 RPM. Truck could probably go much faster, before it lost traction and wrecked.

Re: What is your top speed? Post your MPH and Setup!

My front end has new parts, shocks and springs all around are new. ..What is it that makes it feel like the front end is floating off the pavement at about 85mph..Tires??
Don't really enjoy that feeling very much.

Ever seen pictures of a sonic boom? The pressure wave?
Our trucks push litteraly a wall of air like that pushes the truck up and a lot of turbulence and suction on the back behind the tailgate. Takes a lot of power to push these trucks through the air at speeds over 120 if you look at a lot of newer cars the bottoms are flat and underneath our trucks we have a nice resivior in the back bumper and under the bed for air to drag and get caught in.

Re: What is your top speed? Post your MPH and Setup!

Pushed mine to 4,000 RPM in 4th for a few miles, don't remember what tires I had at the time, somewhere between 90-95MPH.

If it feels like that at 85-90, I would hate to see what it feels like over 100...

How about something simple as an airdam on the front. When I run mine withuot one, it feels so much different than when I have one on.

The main reason I asked this question is because I kind of thought one more thing was unusual...

Why would you need a 160mph Speedometer and a 10,000rpm tach in a square body? I would understand if you had a blower or raced all the time but with my sb400 I can't turn more than 6000 rpms without banging it out. I have .308 gears and a 350th trani so hitting 160mph isn't very likely to say the least.

I'm thinking 120mph max speedometer and a 8,000 rpm max would be just fine. I say 8,000 because it is hard to find a 7000rpm in 5" for a good price.

Thanks for the replies guys! Can anybody run 160mph and 10000rpms? That something I would love to see!
I understand this is an old post, but. Had, to comment on this.

Many of us who have 160 speedos and 10k tachs do because that is what the aftermarket manufacturers offer, simple as that. I'll take that option over the factory bouncing speedo and fuel gauge where the tach would be if the truck had one originally.

Besides, most engines don't see 8k either...watch out on that high horse.

Re: What is your top speed? Post your MPH and Setup!

When my truck was small block powered, it ran 14.6 @ 92 in the 1/4...which was as fast as I had it. Now that is is big block powered, hoping to see 12's @ 105 or so...we'll see.
