Re: How many trucks in your local Neighborhood

In my neighbor hood we have about 5 that i know of theres one a couple blocks from me it is a 65 short fleet side with a 350 and a 3 speed column shift looks pretty good i was talking to the owner he said he has owned it for about 19 years and still working on it (long term project) his son which i think lives with him has a 64 short fleet side i think but i havent seen them move it so im not sure whats up with that one they keep it on the side of the house probably another project but the paint looks pretty good, they have a 72 long fleet there to but i dont think they did much progress on that one , about two streets down from that house there is another one it is a 62 short step side fully customized it has a corvette engine with i think he said 4 speed automatic, sitting on a camaro frame the back has bags the front is lowered every thing electrical from the windows to to the gauges custom tail lights, the back fenders are widened about four to five inches to make the wheels fit, he said he invested around 25k into it, all parts from LMC, when i talked to both owners they had some good words of wisdom one said "when you have money you dont have time and when you have time you dont have money" i thought that was pretty funny and the guy was nice, and the other owner said "you cant be good at every thing on your project you will always need help weather it be electrician, painter, welder, or machinery" those weren't very encouraging words but ehhh still was nice to see more trucks like mine around the neighborhood, the last two i know of is one owned by my friend his is a 61 apache short step side, and finally my 64 long step side, hopefully i can find more around here, i cant wait for the school fundraiser i now know who to invite to the auto tech car show would be nice to see a couple old school trucks parked side by side

Re: How many trucks in your local Neighborhood

Went out scouting again this morning, but pickings were pretty slim in the area we decided to search. Only found this one fleetside. It looks pretty clean and appears to be receiving some attention:

Re: How many trucks in your local Neighborhood

This is actually a great subject....
Interestingly enough...I was searching CL today in the Cars & Trucks by owner.
In the Oregon areas ...there are quite a few postings....really no big deal.
But I searched Seattle and other Wa. areas....and per-capita...I would say there are a bunch more down here than in Washington.
Some very nice....some on their way out.
It could be that the #'s are the same....just not reflected in the "for sale" catagory....
Who knows.
I have at least a dozen out here in my area....rural....farm country.
These are not forum members....all though there are quite a few in my area....within 50 miles, I must have 25 Forum Members....maybe more.
I guess I have three '60-'66ers and a '59 and a '72 all right here at my place.

Re: How many trucks in your local Neighborhood

In my little town of 4000, just on my street there is my 63' 4x4, my neighbor's 77' 4x4, and my buddy's 72' 4x4 in mint condition. His buddy has a 65' Prostock. Around the corner is a hopped up 53' and the girl at the local store has a sweet 56'. We like our trucks out here...

Re: How many trucks in your local Neighborhood

This post got me to open my eyes and look around.

I know of at least 20 of the 60-66 trucks around here, many of them just sitting and rotting away because "someday i'm going to restore it" owners.

Only 2 that have been completely modernized that I know of and several that are daily drivers.

Once I get my camera fixed I'll go shoot some pics and get them posted.

Re: How many trucks in your local Neighborhood

Do they have to belong to others? In my neighborhood there are 3 that I know of and there all mine. What can I say I don't share well!

1965 BBW SWB Dark Blue & factory auto: Pulled out of a barn in Indiana
1966 BBW SWB Turquise & factory: Bought out of South Carolina
1966 SBW SWB Primer: Texas truck and in pieces in my garage

I have a 1964 BBW SWB coming in from Florida as well here in the next week or so but will be stored out at the farm with my 1965.

I've seen a Suburban in another neighborhood but thats about it and once I go that way again I'll snap a pic. Not a whole lot of these trucks running around here at all.

Here’s one my son spotted at a local Dollar Store a few months back. I like the wheel/tire combo and overall stance:

Re: How many trucks in your local Neighborhood

I don't have any pics. Although I live in Michigan, my 64 resides in Oregon. I would bet that between Washington State and Oregon, the count for 60 - 66 Chevy/GMC pick ups would total more than all the other states combined. I see them everywhere in the north west. Of course I am partial to the area. I can't think of even 1 in south east Michigan but I am sure there out there just not that evident.

Yeah, even though it's a conglomerate, I like it just as it is.

Over the summer I will go to a larger show in Pittsburgh, and there will only be 1 or 2 others there. In the past 2 years I have only seen 2 in local yards, and their badly rotted shells are long crushed by now.
PA is tough on the old steel. Seeing a 60-66 around me is a rare site. A neighbor has a 72 and another neighbor has a 67 laying in his yard but that's it.

Re: How many trucks in your local Neighborhood

A friend or relative of a neighbor showed up today with a 66 short bed stepside. 305 V8 and 3 speed transmission, its a work in progress. It's an authentic US Air Force truck, and he met one of the Air Force guys that used to work on it when it was still in service. He intends to keep the military identity.

I know the chances of finding it are about as good as me winning the lottery, but a guy can still hope!

I have my 64, my buddy has about 6 trucks in his yard right now, well actually, 4 complete trucks, enough to build another and a GMC Suburban. I'll try to get some pics next time I'm there.
