Heater Box gasket kit

I am restoring the heater box for my '64, and a long time ago, I bought a gasket/seal kit that I finally opened last night. What a joke. The foam gaskets are paper-thin compared to stock. Even my original, nearly 50 yr old gaskets are about 3 times as thick as the new ones. I want the foam seals that are the stock thickness. The cowl seal barely sticks out past the lip of the flange. If I installed this kit, my truck would have dozens of air leaks. I want to have a tight seal everywhere, and this kit is not going to cut it. The company that produced my kit was called Repops.

Any suggestions on a good quality (thick) seal kit?

Re: Heater Box gasket kit

You might have to get sheet gasket from your local auto parts store. Use the gasket kit as a template and cut your own. An exacto knife or razer blade and I find that using old spent ammo cases make great punches for bolt/screw holes (just make sure the rounds are empty and primers spent).... .25 / 1/4, .38 3/8, .50 1/2" etc....the sheet gasket is made in several different thicknesses.

Re: Heater Box gasket kit

At some point I will need the gaskets. I used RTV for a temp patch the last time mine was apart when the core decided to leak and changed it out during the winter.
