Sanden "style" 508 compressor?

I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a compressor. I see a lot of Sanden knockoff compressors, one of the aftermarket places even uses them in their kits. Anyone had any bad experiences with the knockoffs. I also got an email the implied the genuine Sanden are made off shore too? Comments? Thanks in advance.

OrrieG, Running 508 sanden A/C compressor in my 57 chevy stepside. Used on many imports cars, trucks, suv, & street rods. 508 sanden A/C compressor will give you cold air & trouble free service.

If you want a used one, look at mid 80's Volvo's. I bought one for twenty five dollars at a U-Pull it yard it polished very easy. To convert to R134 is simple all the adapters and procedures are on line by just Googling it.

The Sanden 508 is the recommended compressor by VA for my interior set up,. Question is are the Chinese knockoffs being sold for half price of a Canadian Sanden any good? Lots of guys seem to be running them and one of the major vintage ac companies uses the knockoffs as well.

Mine (knockoff) has been working great for 3800 miles. Seems like a great unit so far.

OrrieG,
I too am getting ready to pull the trigger on AC. I talked with Vintag Air today. The technician said any fixed output Sanden compressor (vs variable) is compatible with their evap units.

Re: Sanden "style" 508 compressor?

thanks for the info. I will get my condenser and hardlines from them, but will get the 508 off line, cannot see paying almost twice as much from VA. As part of the whole kits is affordable, but stand alone pricey.
