Bed wood kit

I am thinking of going with the pine wood kit from mar-k with the hidden fasteners. Can someone share some pics or info on how the large carriage bolts secure the planks to the cross braces?

I think the large carriage bolts bypass the planks and just connect the cross braces to the frame and the planks have a little dimple underneath them that allow the planks to lay flush with the cross braces. I know it sounds like it would make the bed less secure but if it does it is only by a little bit if any. I have no wood in my bed right now and it is bolted on the same way.

Seems like those carriage bolts could be elimintated altogether. They don't seem to hold anything down if I am looking at the pic correctly.

I actually thought there would be an anchor nut embedded into the wood somehow and the bolt would run in the other direction since I'd never seen the hidden fastener wood before. hmmm....

Actually the carriage bolts hold the bed to the frame. so they are needed.

I like the idea and I know the original bed was pine from factory but I prefer a harder wood like an oak for durability. That is the only thing I would change personally.

The picture doesn't show the frame that it should be bolted to. The original use of the photo was instructions on how to install the strips. I just thought it would help you see how it bypasses the wood.

I would rather go with the oak as well but it's almost 200 more and I gotta stay in my budget. (kit prices)...

I bought wood from our local hardwood company and am using the guide here to cut it. Bought the metal strips and new bolts only. Wood was $86.00 metal $49.00 and bolts kit was $17 and finish which you will need to do either way for me was $30.00. I totally get it though if you aren't up to cutting the wood. I have a good table saw and it has been easy. Doing a little here and there when the wife doesn't have other plans for me. haha. See link for wood info.

Im using Pecan wood, just as hard as oak at half the price.
