Generator vs. Alternator.

Getting ready to purchase new wiring harness for my '62. Is there a difference in the harness for a generator or alternator? Truck has a generator that charges at about 14 volts at idle. I may swap it out if it goes dead, but figured if it aint broke don't fix it.

I still run a generator on one car. I collected a few spares on ebay. Think I'm good for about 50 more years.

Re: Generator vs. Alternator.

Its a mattter of personal preferance, if you update to a new internal reg alt, and go with a volt meter to eliminate the amp gauge, a lot of issues goes away as well as maintenance....

Re: Generator vs. Alternator.

Mine went dead so for $55 at the local parts store I bought a 1 wire alternator and had it set up and running in an afternoon.

Re: Generator vs. Alternator.

Where are you getting the wiring harness?
I want to run generator as well but all the wiring harness for sale are 'updated' for alternator use.
