Front drum brakes - alternate banjo fitting?
This forum is amazing. I've been able to find the answers to every situation I encountered since I started the rebuild last October. I'm a few parts away from getting the old blazer back on the road, but ran in to a stripped hose (front diver-side) that's got me stuck.
The 45-degree banjo fitting is shot and I can't find anything that even looks similar. There's another long fitting extending out from the wheel cylinder. What's the correct part to get me from the cylinder to the hose? Standard parts shops were zero help. I think it's a 7/16-20 that goes into the cylinder? Not really sure about the other hose fittings. I found a couple things at SpeedwayMotors, but I'm really not sure what I'm looking for. Any insight, reference, links would be greatly appreciated.

Im not familiar with blazer front drum brakes but i do know that drums usually have an inverted flare for solid steel lines. That fitting on the cylinder looks like an extension but to me it doesnt look like its meant for a banjo fitting.

It actually looks like the end of the hose in the picture near the banjo.

Thanks for the reply Ole Beater. I'm starting to think that most of the parts on this truck aren't meant for this truck. I'm going to try O'Reilly's, then maybe a local hydraulic shop. This seems really basic, but I can't seem to find a detailed diagram from wheel cylinder to MC.

Lmc catalog is usually pretty detailed, may find a diagram there and maybe the fitting. Mine is at work or I would for ya.

Didn't see anything in LMC... which surprised me. I'm guessing the hose goes straight in to the MC then to the frame. The hose is stock. Just not sure why the PO (grampa Dave) had these other fittings in line. A little extra length maybe.
Any photos of an existing 69 still w/ front drums would be great. Most of what I've seen has been post disc conversion. Posted via Mobile Device

I have three I can go look at later when I get home from work. All three of mine are still original drum set ups. I do have a shop manual with me and if I see anything in there I'll post it.

I notice in that picture that it shows front and rear shoe adjustment studs. I have never heard of these. I have been working on my front brakes and have been taking the wheels and hubs off to make adjustments since there is not a hole on the front to get a screwdriver in like the back. I'm assuming that those are threaded studs and I should be able to make the adjustments by turning them? I have a Hanes manuel and it doesn't show anything like that, could you look and see if that's how they work.

I think I posted a pic of wagner type f manual adjustment brakes. I believe the blazers have self adjusting duo servo brakes. Manual states the adjustment takes place when brakes are applied with a firm pedal effort while the vehicle is backing. Applying the brake moves an actuator which turns the star wheel and lengthens the adjusting screw assembly. This action adjusts the shoes until clearance between the lining and drum is within proper limits. No offence but I dont think hanes are very good. Those and chiltons tend to cover too many years.

briank, I very much appreciate the pic! I definitely need to pickup a service manual - too much guessing on my end. So, you've verified that I have a near stock setup. My biggest concern is that I can't seem to find the replacement parts or a safe alterative.
I have to agree with you about the Hyanes manual. Some basic info there I suppose, but some darn photos would be helpful. I have the "online" version.

If the big parts guys (classic, lmc, brothers etc) dont have them, try Wes or gmc pauls. If that fails, pick up a Hemmings motor news and check the services offered or the chevy section and look up brake services. There are guys that specialize in brakes and they'll have what you need.

Good or bad, here's what I did for now. Bolted it straight in to the cylinder. Will check clearance and reach this weekend. I'll have to go to a local shop and see what they recommend. There's a place nearby that makes hydraulic hoses/fittings for tractors, heavy equipment, etc. I'll take it there. Thanks for the help all.

That looks like it would work. Bleed them, jack it up, spin the wheel and have someone press the brake pedal. Also turn the wheel from stop to stop to make sure the hose doesnt pull tight or pinch.

Your setup is the same as what is on the front of my 69. Does seem kind of strange that the extension is in there, but it might be for clearance when turning tight. Luckily, when I did wheel cylinders all the way around, everything came apart fine and went back together fine.
