Re: Wheel Cylinder Replacement- Driverside Front
If no air then yer shoes are backed off too far. Adjust out for light drad (tire spins 1/2 to 1 turn before stopped by the drag). Adjust all 4 wheels. Drive - should be better. Final tweaks if it pulls left or right.
If that aint the fix check for air. I usually run at least a qt thru a system (all 4) after having it open. Pedal should be firming up in top 1/3 and hard by 1/2 stroke. Luck! Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Wheel Cylinder Replacement- Driverside Front
Thanks! Wheel drag has been addressed and with test drive still too much pedal travel. I will probably bleed the master Cylinder into itself next but if this doesn't do it, not sure?????

Re: Wheel Cylinder Replacement- Driverside Front
Set drag. Slam pedal 15 times. Drum is likely looser. Repeat till consistent drag. Next wheel. X 4.
Setting drag once but not cycling pedal leaves shoes too far from drum and low pedal. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Wheel Cylinder Replacement- Driverside Front
Okay. Home now, no more double posts....darn blackberrys with tiny lil buttons.
Sometimes I adjust each wheel 2 to 4 times till the assembly stops centering and needing the shoes adjusted. I set the drag a bit tight, usually about a half spin of the mounted tire and it comes to a stop. Loosens up quit nice to perfect in a couple trips to work and back then its pretty much done for a good bit. |

I've done all of the above except to bleed the master cylinder by itself. Still not right. Took it for a ride around the block (I live out in the stix.) I wonder if my hand operated vaccum pump is bad? It holds pressure though??? I am befuddled!!!!! You'd think this is the first time I've dealt with brakes...

Re: Wheel Cylinder Replacement- Driverside Front
It's not there yet! It's driveable, but if I had to stop fast on a busy street, uh oh! If not the Master Cylinder, then maybe rent a power bleeder to push any air that may be in the lines... I'm not going to let this beat me....... I'l keep trying..
Thanks for asking!

Re: Wheel Cylinder Replacement- Driverside Front
I gave up on the mighty vac and used gravity bleed to get the lines wet and then had momma monster mash the pedal over and over to power squirt the air up over the humps and out. It took a lotta work to move the air out of the system when I overhauled both the 64 and 65...
Looks like I'm gonna have to do it all again with Kato the 63 Chevy II I bought today! |
