New transmission
I was wondering if anyone out there has installed a 5 or 6 speed manual in their 4x4. I got the idea the other day of putting one in my '72 K2500 so my highway RPMs wouldn't be so high. Any information would be very helpful.

Re: New transmission
Maybe you should take a look at the ranger overdrive unit.

Re: New transmission
I looked at the ranger a lot, the only problem is my factory center console. I think I'd have to take it out because of my transfer case shifter getting moved back for a ranger overdrive.

Re: New transmission
Also, the nv4500, which was GMs 5 speed truck tranny in the 90s, has a .73 top gear ratio, which is the same as what a ranger would give me

There are two thread about this swap... just do a search for NV4500.. Polar Suburban is one swap and a member called SunSoaked is doing the other....
