Sensor on LS Intake

Is there anything that I can do with this sensor. If I can rotate it would be great. Tried messing with it tonight with no success. What does it do also would be great to know. It is to close to my firewall to plug in the connector. Hate to start hacking on the firewall again if there is an easier solution. Thanks Daniel

Its located on top of a truck manifold in the rear. Hard to tell in the pic.

Re: Sensor on LS Intake

MAP sensor, carefully unclip it (tabs are fragile) and pull straight up. Rotate 180, reinstall.

Re: Sensor on LS Intake

Could not find the clips to release it. Only played with it for a short time, tomorrow I will have to study it a little more. Thanks for the quick response.

Re: Sensor on LS Intake

Argh... Can't resize photo right now. Anyway, the little tabs on the sides of the sensor has hooks at the top that hold the sensor down. Pry them slightly outward. The sensor is mainly held in by a rubber seal.

Re: Sensor on LS Intake

I can not turn the sensor 180 degrees, it will hit a mounting post right in front of it. Can the molded mounting bracket be rotated to 90 degrees or are the made into the intake?

Re: Sensor on LS Intake

The base is made into the intake. Don't twist. Not sure about the post in the way, mine didn't have one. Maybe someone else has a good idea on this one....

Re: Sensor on LS Intake

I need to rotate it 90 degrees, can this be done. You would think that this would be a serviceable part just in case you broke the tabs. Need an LS guru to jump in and help a brother out. If I knew how to remove it without breaking it I could probably figure it out.

It is in a 68 c10 truck, the problem is its equipped with a porterbuilt dropmember and it moves the motor up from the factory location. I may have to switch to a car style intake manifold. I do not want too, but I may have to do it.

Re: Sensor on LS Intake

If you swap to a car style then you will also need to do the front accessories and water pump ... which can be a pain and expensive. I am not sure what might be in front to prevent you from moving it 180 degrees, maybe that part can be "trimmed" I don't remember what all is around mine.

Re: Sensor on LS Intake

I am going to just cut the post off in front of it. Hopefully that does not leave a big gaping hoe in my intake. I have been searching high and low for the answer. Just going to hack it. lol

Re: Sensor on LS Intake

Wait if your asking "can I cut this"
Yes.

Plenty of intakes have been smoothed over. If your just trimming the top down with a dremel to fit the sensor and molex plug, this should be no problem. Just don't shave it all the way flush so you don't risk thinning the material out too much if you can avoid it. Plastic intakes do crack if provoked too far.

Re: Sensor on LS Intake

Don't cut it too far down or you could end up with a hole. What I would do is cut off the tabs that hold the sensor in, then put the sensor in how you want. Then make a small metal bracket to bolt into that bolt and go over the top of the sensor to hold it down. Doesn't need much to hold it in.

I like this idea, it seems the plastic tabs are going to fail eventually. This way I will not be using them. I will see what I can do.

Not true. I've done a car intake with truck accessories in the past.

This is also what I would do.

Think we got something here. Thanks for all the help.
Looks like its going to work out nicely. You could actually do this if you brake the tabs off on accident
