Task Force - Gas Pedal Binding

Yeah, I DID a search on "gas pedal". I came up with THIS:

All the 47-59 "gas pedal" threads. Nothing mentions problems with binding.

I took mine off, wire wheeled everything, painted, lubed with white molybdenum grease and it still binds slightly and will not return fully to idle. I am missing a pedal so I just hook my toe under the rod to get it to return to idle but obviously, that is not gonna cut it.

Yes, I can and MAY go with an eBay aftermarket gas pedal/cable assembly but it seems like it shouldn't be a hard thing to fix. Am I missing something simple? Yes, the return spring is nice and strong and the carb doesn't seem to be binding.

I'm the ONLY guy who has had this binding issue?

I think I'm going to take it all apart again and friggin "microscopically" examine each part for a burr, wear, something that could be the problem.

Part of the reason for doing this is I'd like to be able to just buy a $13 replacement rubber gas pedal...

...than to have to drop $50-60 for an eBay Chinese Lokar knockoff, or a $150-160 real Lokar pedal assembly (which MAY be made in China anyway!)

i found mine was doing the same thing when I was trying to get the throttle linkage set up. I found it was in the sleeve that passes through the firewall. I gave it a shot of WD 40 and worked it until there wasn't any more binding

Ha ha, it'll be funny if; after all the fretting I've done over it, a little WD fixes it!

But ok, I'll try it before going home today and taking it all apart again.

post a picture of your linkage, that would help to determine if it's stock and maybe diagnose a fix
stock linkage is pretty basic, not many pivots or bind spots
most problems are caused by the back of the stock pedal wearing out

Yeah, you're right about posting a picture....but I'm posting from my desk at work, sheesh!

The assembly at the toe/firewall is all stock. It's the part I took off to wire wheel, paint, lube. I replaced it on the firewall with new bolts - just cause the old ones were mismatched, but that should make no difference. There is no pedal. I have simply been steeping on the end of the rod and pulling it up with the toe of my shoe to get the truck back to a full idle.

I'll take a photo later today and post tonight.
