ok take me back to school
Well it looks like I need a lesson in wiring 101
I just re wired my truck jumped in a no power..... This is what I have so far power from the battery to the starter and that's where it ends no power any where else. any ideas where to start. I know I haven't given much but sadly i am stuck at the first part for my trouble shooting. O I have a hei dizzy in it if that helps |

I replaced both battery cables is there a fuse able link that is supposed to be hooked up ?

do you have ground wires from bat to eng eng to frame frame to body?
im assuming your other power wires are also hooked to the starter?

I have all those grounds hooked up but the strange thing is when I un plug the negative battery cable and hook my ground lead for my tester to it and touch the positive cable it dose not light up.
now for the fun part I hook up the negative battery cable and I can hook my ground lead to any thing and touch the positive and my tester will light up. |

This may help the fuze block usually gets its power off a wire from the starter bolt which is a fusible link on most GMs. On this diagram it circuit 2A a large red wire , one other thing make sure you have good clean contact with all your terminals both at the battery and on the truck,I fixed a lot of "big problems"by cleaning the battery terminals or connector.

On that diagram it shows a wire going from the battery terminal on the starter to the alt. on the wiring diagram I used it has the alt wire going to the ampmeter from there is goes to the ing switch.

Well this is a little harder with out seeing it but I am willing to try to help. A lot of alternators need battery power to excite them so they will charge. In some cases it should on be key on supplied power or the alt. will say excited and drain your battery(mine did I had it hooked to direct battery power) at least the smaller wire does this. The ammeter is a current flow meter it tells you the current is flowing and has to be hooked in series or inline with the wire to work. To try explain like the water illustration which is how I learned electricity. The battery is the water tower holding tank it stores the energy. Your battery cables are your city main water supply to your homes. The smaller wires tie in your city main to supply power into the home. If I read your first post right you have power to the starter correct? So your city main should be ok you need to check and see were your smaller supplie wire is hooked up. The large wire on the back of the alt should have battery all the time, some run a supply wire from that to the fuse box has the home supply wire. Your key switch should have battery power to one terminal all the time and when you turn the key it supply's power to the small terminal on the stater solenoid which closes or turns on the main battery power so the starter spins. Other terminals on the key switch only have power when the key is in the run position like the small wire on the alt. so when you turn off the key you shut off the power to the component. I hope this helps I have sat in the front seat of my truck several time explaining this to students some times a picture is worth you know. Don't think our self in to a corner stand back be patient and take a break,that's how if have figured out stuff that was kicking my butt. I got it!!!!!!! lol one wire killed the whole system it came unplugged found it on accident
