I keep coming into dead ends trying to find a company that makes what I need in order to drop my truck. It's a 76 Sierra grande 3/4 ton I know people have done them before. So was wondering if I can use the same drop spindles for the 1/2 tons? Same flip kits too? I'm afraid to order and be SOL due to getting the wrong stuff. I do not want to cut the c notches so however low I can get without doing that and keeping it reasonable to be a dd. Sorry for asking a topic that I'm sure has been asked a million times.
Thanks! ![]() Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 3/4 ton lowering question
I think a 3/5 would be pretty close to the most you can do with out further mods, but on my C20 a 6/8 would still be great for DD. It would be car low, but I driven lower with no real problems. Other then having to slow down for dips or speed bumps.
You can use C30 drop spindles if you change your calipers, but your rotors are fine. 3" drop. For the rear you can make your own flip kit with new U bolts, and 1/4 plate steel cut to size for the backing plate. All you need to do is flip the bolt, and while your at it you could remove leafs for a softer ride if need be. Probily around 6-7 inches, and a lift shackle would be needed to raise her back up for you. You could cut off the leaf hangers, and move them up for the desired drop. Degree shims will be needed to correct pinion angle. While your at the rear drop move your carrier bearing back as close to 3/4 of an inch as you can get to prevent driveshaft bind. This will work on my C20 so it may work on your too. My transmission yoke is pretty far out, but not all maybe this way. I would cut you C20 springs for the last bit of drop as they are quite stiff already. C30's can be a decent up grade if you want, but new springs are not necessary unless you don't have an angle grinder. Up to 3" drop, but good shocks will be needed. Advanced lowering techniques if you have more time would be section 1.5 inches out of the cross member. More then that would require moving the steering box, and not quite sure if it is up or down to match. Z'ing the frame up to 2.5 inches with out moving the trans tunnel up to accommodate the trans. Also you could move the cross member an inch forward to keep the wheels centered when lowered. Not sure why this happens, but I have seen it first hand. While you at it you could relocate you front, and rear shocks to work with the desired drop. This allows use of cheaper shocks, and keeps them at a more optimal angle. Also you could rebuild your front suspension while at it, and move the lower A arm forward 3/4 of an inch to get more camber gain under hard cornering. |

Re: 3/4 ton lowering question
Z covered most of it but...
POL has 3/4 ton spindles You can get shackle and hanger kits for the rear. The spindles up front and a cut spring can get your 5-6 inches up front. The shackle/hanger will get you 4 inches but if you remove some springs then you can get 6 out back as well. |

Re: 3/4 ton lowering question
Wow that was a lot of info but awesome for me to refer to. Thank you so much. I'm not too advanced and live in an apartment probably for the next two years. However the new place I'm moving into at the end of the month does have an attached garage which is easier with having children and all. Well thanks much for the insight.

Nice this will be more of the style ill end up going. Lol how hard can it be? Looks like ill have a reason to buy more tools as the wife said I should keep the truck and not get another vehicle. I was just concerned with making sure it still rode decent and not like crap. That's why I was trying to look for a kit and all. Sweet thanks again guys. 3/4 ton has proven to be a challenge. Re: 3/4 ton lowering question
DJM makes a 3/4inch kit but I dont like the dropped control arms.
The ride will have to do a lot with your shock choice (assuming you dont hack the front coils in half). I have a 75 C20. I picked up spindles/shackles/hangers from a board member for $250 shipped. I am going to do the 3inch drop spindles, cut one coil, shackles/hangers, and remove three leafs. I am hoping for a 6/6 drop. |

Re: 3/4 ton lowering question
As for tools check out Home Depot they often have nice home user sets for about $70.
I bought a set for a co-worker to get started where I work, and got a 270 piece set for $60 on sale, and a set of wrenches. Stubby and regular for $35. |

Re: 3/4 ton lowering question
I dont know if they have a harbor freight there but they have cheap tools. He had a build thread that went a different direction and I pm'd him. Keep your eyes open but 3/4 ton stuff is rare.

Re: 3/4 ton lowering question
Are the C-notch's and shackle and hanger kits the same for the C-10's and C-20's?

Re: 3/4 ton lowering question
No, I went with drop shackles and hangers. I took out the overload leaf and next two leafs out. Gave me about 6 inches of drop and a noticeably smoother ride.
