ATTENTION: Classic Gurus! Need your advice on this possible purchase! 1965 C20

Hey guys,

Looking at a 65 C20 with a 327 stock. 4 on the floor. Car is in awesome shape mechanically, 4WD works, new lift in front (off a k10 blazer). Big ole meats (pleanty of tread on the BFGs)

The Chevy runs and drives GREAT!

BUT:
Needs attention on the interior, electrical, and has some rust around the windshield (almost going through to the cab) no holes though..

The price tag on this beauty is $1,000 USD

Is something like this worth it? I have ZERO intention of restoring it (college student). But i do have intentions on driving it like it should be driven and kicking some mud.

I would love some insight on the worth of these vehicles and what they go for in OK condition..

ALSO: Can anyone decode the VIN?! What options did this Truck come with off the assembly line?

K2545S106474 reads as K = 4wd, 25 = 3/4ton longbed 127" wheelbase, 4 = pickup, 5 = 1965, S = St. Louis and truck vehicle # 106474. you will need a build sheet to determine what originally came on the truck. Looks like it had a trim package from the exterior pics. Some more interior pics will help. Pics of the guage cluster, etc....some under hood pics. Im more of a 60-63 guy, but I think the 327 was a 66 option. There will be more help chiming in. Looks great for $1000, and Id tell you to replace whats broke or missing and just enjoy the truck.

Electric work if minor...id just fix. If its a rats nest...replace. Interior can be cheap or expensive....just depends your involvement and how nice you want to go. The cab rust around the windshield is somewhat common. Pictures of the trouble areas will speak volumes to the members here and the folks who can get you on the right track with it.

$1000 for a running, drivable truck. What a steal! No matter what you do with it, it is worth it. If you want a beater you can flog, good price, go for it. If you want a daily driver, good price, go for it. If you want to restore, GREAT PRICE, go for it.

around here (and I'm only about 350 miles from you) you cant touch a running vehicle (of any kind in any condition) for less than 1500-2000. Depending on how much rust around the windshield and if there is any rust on the floors I'd say (without a closer look) it is likely worth double or more than they want for it. And wiring on a truck this age is not really that difficult. Best thing about trucks/cars of this age is that they are relatively easy to work on compared to modern cars/trucks and parts are still plentiful (mostly)

Any advice on the value of this truck if it were cleaned up a bit? (interior, paint etc)

a rust free, decent paint, good running truck (daily driver condition) is likely worth $3500-6000 depending on condition. I generally see this generation of trucks average $4-5K. Fully restored they can go for much much more.

Definately worth the buy at 1g! Cleaned up it would be worth like said before 3500-6000. 4wd is not all that popular. Great find! Hope you are able to end up purchasing it!
