230 inline 6 with a TH400 trans?
Hey all!
I have three on the column in my '64 and am interested in eventually changing out transmissions for an automatic. I have a line on a th400. Has anyone mated their 230 i6 with one? Sound like a decent combo depending on what gears I have in the rear end? |

Re: 230 inline 6 with a TH400 trans?
I have a '65 all original rear end and engine. Stuffed a 400 trans in with little to no issues. Had to play around with the crossmember a little but everything lined up well. I'm looking at converting to an auto-column though as I don't like the shifter in the floor. You will have to modify your trans hump to be able to mount the shifter. I had made a mounting plate that I riveted in to the hump that holds up well. I don't recall the years but at some point the earlier I6s had different bellhousing bolt patterns. I'm sure it was earlier than '64 though.
