The 66-72 trucks came w/either leafs or coils. Leafs were more common in GMC's; coils more common in Chevys.
Coil suspensions generally do offer improved ride quality & the leafs were more stable w/loads. I've had 2 very similar set-up trucks (front drop w/spindles & trimmed coils). 1 had leafs (used a flip kit) & the other was bags in place of coils + blocks. The coil suspension set-up was hands down better ride quality.
