not a square, but got this for free, i got to keep whatever i wanted off it, & gave my buddy any money made from selling parts. got a brand new 454 rad from it, fairly new GM reman. 241 t-case, almost new old style BF M/T's, headlights, seatbelts, some dash stuff & about $10 in change. sold everything else for approx. $800 for my bud

Re: parts trucks

Usually i just buy parts from salvage yards, but im going to go look at a parts truck for the first time tomorrow to see if i can grab a few things i need, then sell the rest to make it zero dollars out of pocket. We'll see how it goes.

Re: parts trucks

My 84 GMC c1500 sierra parts pickup on the day we dragged her back. Had the inline 6 but the motor was stuck and trans was shot otherwise everything in and on it is in fairly good condition except the passenger front fender which appears to had been backed into. Was used as a farm pickup and had a service tank so the typical rust areas had a nice coating of diesel/dirt residue. Was originally going to find a 350 and tranny to drop in but picked up a running 86 instead. Only things ive pulled off so far is the passenger mirror and dash pad for my 86. Eventually pull the hood, box, and driver fender at least and anything else I deem needs replacement haha.

Re: parts trucks

Drove the '79 Suburban around for a few years until driving down old logging roads had the body sitting too crooked. Was afraid it was going to fall off and cause some problems so I retired it.

drove the Blue one too, until it pissed me off too much...

Re: parts trucks

The first one is an 80 K20 j- bought for the diffs but it's more of a yard truck now -- still runs pretty good
The second one is a 91 one ton with 6.2 -- got it mostly for the engine
The third one is the newest of the "fleet" -- got it two weeks ago for diffs and tranny
The fourth one is a 82 K25 -- freebie -- got it for the diffs
The fifth one is a 79 C15 -- heavy half -- factory 454 -- will get rebuilt "someday"

Dogs is named after one of the best guitar players ever -- ANGUS!!!!!!

Re: parts trucks

First pic is 74 C20 -- cost me one flat of beer for complete truck -- good 14 bolt FF410
Second pic is 87 K15 wrangler -- major damage down left hand side -- low mileage 6.2 and four speed
Third pic is 87 C15 -- buddy of mine moved away and I acquired some of his treasures
Fourth pic is 82 C20 -- freebie -- got it for the 6.2 plus there was a brand new windshield inside
Fifth pic is 82 C10 -- buddy of mine is undecided whether to restore or not

Re: parts trucks

dam! thats a sweet looking yard rubble-picture postcard!
with all that hardware, your crew should be pretty stout!
yeah it helps to have an understanding wife, she understands the garage & whatever yard i need are mine, & i understand the house is hers to do whatever she wants (seriously-pink living room walls once!)
also helps if their vehicle is nicer than yours!
with the prices your paying for them trucks, your hobby is still cheap enough to take wife to dinner (whoops..)

Re: parts trucks

I started scrounging the craigslist ads near me (within 100 miles) about 2 months ago, looking for the perfect parts truck. I need a bed and doors for "Julius" and really, not much else. I got tired of seeing the same ads, went to look at several... but either they wanted too much money, or the bed parts weren't good enough to warrant saving with patch panels, so I bumped up the search circle to 200 miles and not much else came up, then I decided to bump up my price a little just to see what was out there... that's when I found the 1974 "Mr Green Jeans" pop up. It had been sneaking under my radar for over a month because it was 100 dollars over my previous search price limit and was 105 miles away!!! Now I need two parts trucks, one with a BBC for Green Jeans and still need the one for the bed and doors for Julius!!!
