Re: 3100 Icon Thriftmaster
Nice truck, but nothing special (except for the custom billet) that hasn't been done by others on this site for MUCH less. Since the tag line was a comparison to a Ferrari I was expecting and exotic sports car bird cage frame with matching suspension and running gear, not IRS/4 link, and something besides a hopped up crate engine. Also didn't care for WIREDed disparaging grease monkey remarks, lots of nice work coming out of the garages here.

Re: 3100 Icon Thriftmaster
Definitely an inflated article/price tag. To your point, most of what I've learned came off this site, YouTube, local shops, trial and error, and not from Mr. Ward.

Hey now Mr. Ward is my dad.lol.
Seriously I think he makes a nice product. But for the coin one would think a clean firewall would come standard. I'm with orrie on this , the best and most creative stuff is on here. |

Re: 3100 Icon Thriftmaster
It's a nice truck, but I'd build one more to my liking and buy a house with a garage to park it in for less than that truck alone. I also like how the article calls Ferrari and fine sports cars nothing special when I could probably count on only ne hand how many I've actually seen in real life but have seen countless AD Chevys trucks. This truck looks to me like nothing special. Nice truck but, bottom line, not worth the price tag.

Icon manufactures nearby in Chatsworth. They do Broncos and Toyota Land Cruisers as well. Very nice stuff but the price tags are crazy. They are built for people that have way more money than they need. God bless 'em though. They keep the rest of us employed.

Re: 3100 Icon Thriftmaster
Sure would be nice to have that kind of money to mess around with! This truck looks great, but for that kind of money I'd rather spend 50 grand a pop and build 5 Thriftmasters. Pretty sure you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between driving this and a 50k truck...

Re: 3100 Icon Thriftmaster
I was just thinking that the fat cat who buys that and pulls into a rod trot and parks near Youngrodder is going to get his whole day ruined real quick.
I'd think that the poor fool that pays 250K for that truck will find that when he tires of it in six months he will be hard pressed to get 60 K for it at Barrett Jackson. True it has the hot lick pieces but it will disappear in the crowd at a Goodguys event being viewed as just another satin finished AD truck with big rims among dozens of satin finished AD trucks with big rims. The main thing I am seeing is that it looks and sounds like he uses all new parts including the cab along with a number of billet pieces. Probably about 70 to 80 K in new parts in crates and boxes sitting on the shop floor before he turns a wrench. It sure would be fun to do that once though and it looks like a truck you would jump in and drive.
