Question New Info

Has anyone added one of these since they put their LS engine in? Seems like it would be a good info source to have and it plugs into the aldl connection and has real time data. I think I may invest in one.

Re: New Info

Mine is 50% of my dash. I use it for a speedo, temp, oil temp and voltage gauges. Works simple, and color matched the other blue interior lights that I had.

Take a look through my build again, or take a look at the Truck Light Test video on my YT channel to see it litup/working.

Re: New Info

Theres this interesting place called Amazon.com, they sell them cheaper.

I unplug the scangauge to log. The computer displays all the same info that the gauge would, and I still have an analog tach to look at on the dash.

Sometimes running two Aldl ports works, as I've heard from some...but certain things like HPT don't like to work with the other devices.

Yea I'm going to look around and see. E-bay was the same price as the store. I may get the windsheild mount also but have been thinking about putting it in the ash tray with a flip up for it.

Amazon is same price also. $159.95

Re: New Info

It can plug in from behind OR the right side, so you can flush-mount it to the dash/ashtray without exposed wiring.

Yea that's what I was going to do is mount it like a flip up. I have a old ash tray I may use to get it right then transfer it to mine in the truck. This way it's out of sight and no cords to see.

Re: New Info

What about those cheapo bluetooth devices that hook up to scan pro or torque scan or what ever it is and monitor it on your phone or other device you might already have? I saw one a buddy had but didn't play with it much. I may grab it and give it a shot. I have HP tuners for the real stuff...

Re: New Info

They work physically, though I don't know how good the refresh rate on the information is. With the scanguage plugged in directly, there is still a few milliseconds delay, which can be less than ideal for things like an accurate tach signal.

For things like speedo or pressure/temp sensors, it should be fine as the refresh rate on the information is unaffected by a small delay. I.e your temp sensor won't see huge changes in fractions of a second, nor does the EXACT value matter as much. The difference between 198* and 199* on a gauge doesn't really matter (egt's excluded)

I haven't looked at them but just sitting here thinking about it, I don't think I would like it. The delay and the fact you would have it on all the time with the GPS going on the phone and calls and such I would rather have the scan gauge I think.

Re: New Info

I run an Aeroforce Interceptor. Does the same basic things I believe...but only shows 2 results. It does however allow for pairing 2 Interceptors to give you 4 results. It also allows for two +/-5v inputs for each gauge...for like running 02 sensors for air/fuel readings or something else.

Question Re: New Info

I have the actron scanner also. It's just a basic scanner. I may invest in a good scanner though. Anyone have a good suggestion on a good one to buy.

Question Re: New Info

Yea I don't worry much about codes as long as the truck is running. The old setup kept odd codes all the time that's why I put a toggle switch on the check engine light so I could cut the light off.
I had hawks just coil the engine light up for now until I decide where I want it. That reminds me what kind of bulb are you all using for this?

As far as scanners I was thinking more on a scanner that can check for anything not just engine stuff but for all electrical stuff in the 08 Tahoe and 2014 camaro and the wifes 2011 Treverse.

Re: New Info

Andy, there are some that use a laptop. the big step up would be to go to hptuners that gives you lots of scan and code clearing options and it also gives you the ability to tune. It is much more spendy than a code reader.
I am sure the new scan gage you got will read and clear codes also. It is handy to know what the light is on for even tho it is running fine.
Good luck and hope you get it going this week.

PS.LOL Brew, that was very visual...

Yea these are the ones I was thinking about. HPtuner are something like it. My only concern is I would get into it and mess something up and have to pay Bruce again to redo it.

Re: New Info

it is like writing an essay or something Andy, just save save save...
When I mess with mine I always have an original known good one saved usually a few places... like a work computer and your laptop that way we can always go back. There is a ton of things that can be changed. I had mine tuned initially back in 2005 and it was awesome they did a great job. I added a cam and they did a retune and again awesome. When I went turbo the tuning got harder, then I went 2 bar system and figured I better get the software and tune. Now the guy I used included retunes so any changes he can just e-mail them to me no more sending the computer.
plus I find it intimidating to the other racers when I am in the pits tapping away on my laptop...

Cool Re: New Info

Well that good info to know right there. I haven't talked to Bruce at length at all about his tuning. I guess I need to. I'm not planning on racing it any except to see it go down Z-max in June. I want some good pictures of it on the track.
Thanks can't wait for June to get here.
