Vortec upgrade?
Wondering if a vortec head upgrade would be a good idea. And if it would be possible on my 1990 tbi suburban, looking to make my engine more efficiant

Re: Vortec upgrade?
They are good heads. There are several issues with putting them on a TBI motor though. For one, you lose the EGR valve. Another is you will also need a vortec intake manifold. Yet another is that to get the benefits out of them you need the chip in the computer reprogrammed.

Re: Vortec upgrade?
Won't make enough difference to pay for the swap. Edelbrock makes in intake that'll fit but you'll need to mod a bracket to fit tranny/throttle attachment. And you'll need a chip burned to optimize the swap.
TBI heads actually make more torque to about 3 grand, then the Vortecs take over. If you'll spend more time above that number, make the swap. If not, leave it alone. Spend that coin on headers and a good chip, you'll like the truck better. |

Re: Vortec upgrade?
You can tune and add a little timing to your engine. TBI parts are available.

Re: Vortec upgrade?
Ok. The tbi is what I was mainly in question about as I know guys that have done it on carb motors and love it but honestly never owned a tbi truck and no little about what I can do with it
