No Run, No Fuel?
Went over to a friend's house the other day to pick up some milking equipment. As I came up to the the last hill before the house, the engine surged, cut out, then came back and ran fine. I made it to my friend's, loaded up the equipment, and made it 50 yards before the engine cut out again for good.
I was thinking the fuel filter might be plugged, but bypassing it makes no difference. The motor just plain isn't getting fuel. There's no fuel coming past the fuel pump. I guess the question is, is this symptomatic of a bad fuel pump? Or something further back in the fuel system?

Re: No Run, No Fuel?
Just remove the large fuel hose from the tank and hook a longer piece of hose to it and suck on it to see if gas is available. If you can't suck it, the fuel pump can't suck it either. I did this a couple weeks ago and got gas but the fuel pump wouldn't suck it. Found out the short 6 inch hose from the metal line to the pump had a pin hole in it that didn't leak any fuel but was sucking air.

Re: No Run, No Fuel?
You could also have a clogged fuel tank sock. If it looks like this you'll have those symptoms.

Re: No Run, No Fuel?
Depending on which truck you are working on there will be different answers. Gas truck may have water in fuel. Diesel may go the same way but also fuel may have gelled on you as cold as it has been. Only ever had on gel on me. It was the folks vehicle they had it hauled to the dealership. New filter and a bit of time in the warm shop took care of it.
