Looking at a L92 6.2

Called a guy about an 07 Escalade 6.2 6 speed trans. This was a 4wd/AWD version I am told. Don't know much about them. I have been wanting to do something like this for my 85 C10 short bed. My understanding is that this engine is the variable timing type. I have heard that this may not be the best option. All I know is that this is supposed to be 27,000 mile engine and comes with the trans, transfercase, stand alone harnes, computer, and high pressure fuel pump.

Can mod these engines and make them run like you can the older LS and Vortec engines? If I got something like this I would want to put a healthy sounding cam in it. Also can the trans be made into a 2wd trans. The guy also said I should also be able to use the frame side clam shell mounts and it comes with the other mounts and would be able to move the engine back or forward either way if I wanted. Not sure about any of this and would like some feedback.Comes complete with all accessories.

Re: Looking at a L92 6.2

I can answer this one as i bought the exact same thing....
L92 with a 6l80 awd from a denali
and the answer to the majority of your questions is yes...
The motor was vvt... you can buy a vvt delete kit from texas speed and put a normal cam of your choosing in it...
http://texas-speed.com/p-724-vvt-delete-kit.aspx
or you can actually buy the majority of those parts from your dealer and maybe save some money if your parts dept give you a hookup...
I have part numbers for all somewhere...
next on the trans you will have to have it converted to 2wd... the estimates i recieved to do this were around 1k to go through the trans to check for any probs and replace the rear shaft and tail housing with a slip shaft syle unit
From there its up to you which directions you go..
I went ahead and upgraded my valve springs and had my heads machined and rebuilt... I also upgraded my trans to a 6L90 2wd from a similar year vehichle (i have heard this can be a headache but i am not to that point yet)
For install i would recommend Doug Thorley headers, CPP sheet metal perches and dirty dingo slider mounts as this combo is working for me...
You will also want to look into lower profile oil and trans pans as the truck one will hang down below the cross member...

Re: Looking at a L92 6.2

VVT...my '09 LY6 (6.0L iron block/L92 aluminum heads) I removed VVT easily in the process of a cam change with a new 4x timing gear, you just add the non-VVT timing cover. I went with the LS2 cam chain tensioner.

You can get some movement in your stock mounts, tho the sliding mounts provide a lot of mounting options.

Thanks guys. Not sure yet how this is going to play out as I am still trying to do my homework on it first.
