Tow haul button??

Has anyone used the tow haul mode as performance mode on a gen IV 6l80?
And
Has anyone used the Speartech tap shift harness or something like it?

Re: Tow haul button??

If you use the "search this forum" instead of the search at the top, you'll get a couple of good results on the topic.

A few have used it off the "stalk" and others just run it as a push button. I believe Hart Rod has Tow/Haul working on his, some others do as well.

I don't know anything about that particular speartech part, but some folks have used something similar or used another setup to run the TuTd off of the 6l80e-cars.

You might find a touch more on setting it up over on Ls1tech

Talking Re: Tow haul button??

I'm going to see if Hawks will set mine up like this.
Just in case I want to pull my dragster cart with the truck again.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

I'm not sure how you would initiate this with the tow/haul mode toggle switch, as it has nothing to do with TUTD function. The gear selection controls this ("M" mode).

For the Camaro/Corvette 6L80s, if you go into the "M" mode, you are in what the owners manual calls the "sport" mode. In the "sport" mode, some torque management is reduced and the shifts are a lot "sportier". Also, in this mode, you can use TUTD (if you have the correct wiring and hardware....paddle shifters or toggle button).

And, I think, you have to use a BCM to use the tow/haul function anyway, at least that's how I think it works for the truck 6L80s/90s. With that all being said, a tuner that knows what he is doing, should be able to program the "M" selector position in a truck transmission to have a "sportier" mode, because that capability exists in the Tuning software that is out there (HPTuners/EFI Live).

Clear as mud????, ask me how the paddle shifters work and I'll write you another book......

Re: Tow haul button??

I had read somewhere how someone used the tow haul button as a performance tune button. but cant remember where. The TU/TD speartech has, i was wondering how it worked? do you have to change some wiring or anything? change the ECM setup? etc?

I purchased a Shriftersix setup. It came with billet aluminum wireless paddle setup and a wireless receiver. the receiver plugged into some wires that John at Speartech pulled from the ECM when he built my harness. I sent the receiver to John and he verified that it worked when plugged into the harness. They work great, but are not cheap. Speartech sells a module with a toggle switch that will allow you to use the TUTD feature that is a lot cheaper.

I've heard of guys doing the tow haul thing you are talking about on 4L80/60s, but not on the A6's (doesn't mean it can't be done). The TUTD module uses different resistors to make the transmission changes gears up or down. A wire has to be pulled from the ECM and then plugged into Speartech's module or some paddle shifter setup. I think there are a couple of things that have to be setup in the computer if it the transmission is not a camaro/corvette, but I'm not 100% sure what it is. You will need to go on LS1tech or download a truck and car tune and do some comparisons.

I found a couple of threads on LS1Tech that discuss the tow/haul for A4's:
