80 blazer oil capacity
A little confused
Changed the oil and filter in my blazer added 5 quarts still oil stuck dry and no indication of oil in pan ? Last time it was bone dry and I added 3 quarts so it might have had 8 quarts in the oil pan? That doesn't seem right....everything is stock Anything I should be checking? |

Re: 80 blazer oil capacity
What engine do you have in there?
Is is stock (might want to check the numbers on the casing). Show some pics of your oil pan, and does it have an numbers on it? Measure the length of your dipstick, with photos also, both in and out of the sleeve. Does it look stock to you? If you put in 8 quarts does it THEN show on the Dipstick? |

Re: 80 blazer oil capacity
5 quarts should put you on the stick for a V8,unless it's the wrong stick or a oversized oil pan.

Re: 80 blazer oil capacity
it's a 350 and looks 100% stock to me. even prior mechanics that worked on my blazer said it looks original.
i will take pics tomorrow. what is the length of the oil dipstick on a stock 350? the stick looks newer that the engine....maybe previous owner switched out. oil pan looks original...blu chevy color and I will take pics tomorrow. when it had 8 quarts in it ...it finally showed on dipstick but thought that wasn't right so drained it...changed the filter...filled with 5 quart jug and it doesn't hit the stick. |

Re: 80 blazer oil capacity
I wish I could help but apparently can only add to the mystery. Here's the dip stick out of my 79, and it measures 18.5". Are you sure the pan is stock? I thought mine was all stock but now am wondering.

Re: 80 blazer oil capacity
I just looked around the web and it seems like there is not real clear answer.
Which side of the block is it on? Looking for O'reilly replacements show 23" sticks, but they say "make sure it's the same length as the one you are replacing". But that might be a start. So this shows it will fit (passenger side) your year and make but it does not tell you the length: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/lo...ions/year/1980 |

Re: 80 blazer oil capacity
its on the passenger side....jc whitney said they have an OE one for $16.00 he couldn't verify the size but said basically I can return full refund if it doesn't fit.
he was also checking something and he said they have 24" and 32" lengths also but he couldn't tell me where it was measuring from the pan is original...5 quarts is the max right? i just changed oil and filter and put in 5 quart jug in it. the oil filter looks like it will take a quart by itself thanks bruiser for checking. |

Re: 80 blazer oil capacity
Maybe I'm wrong but how about the tube coming out if the engine maybe not in all the way or just a Chinese after market that's to long so it doesn't allow the stick to go all the way
