Re: New Info
I really like my scan gauge. I use it for the digital speedo, a very accurate fuel level gauge, temp gauge, and tach. Of course you can see any gauge you want like the average fuel economy in the picture. You can calibrate it very accurately over time. The 17.8 mpg is correct.

Re: New Info
Handheld tuners arent' the same thing....and most handheld tuners are really only useful on certain vehicles. When I had late model chryslers', you had to have one for the srt4/8s that we did, but since working with late model GM efi, there just isn't a replacement for HPT. Buy a scanguage, save the rest of the money.

Re: New Info
It uses injector pulse to guess that, assuming you calibrated the tank and fillup system, that still might be off. The mpg calc isn't really that great, tho I find its usually as accurate as the lie-o-meter that comes on cars these days.
That being said, I don't think thats terrible for hurling a brick into the wind.

Re: New Info
even with these bricks....rpm at cruise still makes a huge difference in mpg. If you want the big mpg numbers...your cruise rpm needs to be at or below 2k rpm...every 100 rpm's or so above that is dropping the mpg that much more. the lower the better (to a degree).
My TBSS with 4.10's is running like 2200-2300 rpm at 70mph and 2500 rpm at 80mph (IIRC)....and it rarely gets better then 17mpg. I had a bigger/heavier 6.0L full time AWD, 2001 Sierra C3 that got better mpg's with its 3.73's.

Re: New Info
^ see mine's all wacky because I have a 3:73 and turn the same RPM's roughly (4l80e), and I can get 17-19 give or take freeway (but I also have those steel 12" wide wheels in back)

Re: New Info
well I rechecked and I was off on the rpm's.....70mph is closer to 2500rpm with the 4.10's.
tire height makes a difference too. is there a difference in an 80e's OD ratio and a 60e's? seems they are close...like .05 or .10 difference or so. can't remember.

Re: New Info
That sounds more like it. Mine is 4:10 gears with the 20" tires and driving it to Greenville last Saturday was about 2500-2600 per the scan gauge. My regular tach want be right until the tuner gets his hands on it.

Re: New Info
Just flip the switch on the back to "4 cyl" mode and all fixed on your tach...

Re: New Info
Played with the scan gauge today. I got it to take the transmission codes and it saved it but it has no signal showing!
Can are will the computer tunner be able to turn this on in the computer when he does the tune? I was told the 4l80e should have the signal in the computer in a stock setup which I realize mine isn't. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I sure would like to have a temp reading on the trans.
