Original steering wheel - by year
Ignoring the steering wheel cover in this pic, can anyone confirm whether the wheel pictured is the shape/style of an ORIGINAL 1971 Suburban steering wheel?
I have looked at some of the contemporaneous brochures, but steering wheels are not depicted very prominently. It appears from those documents that I have seen, that there was a 3-spoke version and/or a version with an thick, angled bar across the middle (similar to this pic but without the additional hump where the horn button is). Did steering wheels vary by model (k20 vs c10) or did they only change by year - and, if so, how often? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

No, that is not the original steering wheel, it is from a later model. The three spoke version you have seen is probably a 67-68 wheel.

Re: Original steering wheel - by year
Thanks for confirming it isn't original.
I found this brochure for 1971 Chevy "Trucks". Any chance that Suburbans used this same steering wheel? I do feel like I have seen this style somewhere in these threads - or elsewhere... It would be great if it were because I really like this style.

Re: Original steering wheel - by year
For reference. Top wheel is 80s-90s truck wheel, lower left is 69-72 truck wheel, lower right is 60-66 truck wheel (with a 67 CST cap)

Re: Original steering wheel - by year
Thanks a lot LeddZep! The truck I bought has some crappy aftermarket corvette wheel on it or something. Now I know what to keep an eye out for!

As I recall the steering wheel is featured in the 69-71 brochures clearly. http://www.oldcarmanualproject.com/b...ban-01_jpg.htm
