Re: Is this dually Factory or "homemade"?

cc trucks frame rails are closer together than a regular dually. you will run into that when ordering tool box beds for example. a cc axle on a regular truck you inside tire is going to be touching they dont clear alot on a reg dually even. to make this work you take a c&c truck put a regular bed on it and cut the tubs to widen them. i have been around one or two that was done. one they just cut the tubs off and left it open in the bed

My point was the leaf spring is outside of the frame rail.
You kept saying the tire would hit the frame.

Re: Is this dually Factory or "homemade"?

i get ya but its going to be into all of it. look at srw truck a stepper would be the best example now look at putting a 8 inch wide tire on the inside of the stock tire no way you can clear. you could shorten its frame and remount the springs to clear but jesus that a huge amount of work. i dont think your stock leafs would even clear a c&c axle enough to bolt up.

Re: Is this dually Factory or "homemade"?

you could 4 link and it may fit to get single wide wheel on the back with a deep offset. dually wheels though have no offset on the inside wheel.

The cab and chassis axle and the SRW 1 ton axle have the same spring spacing and are the same width. (all the 1 ton axles have the same spring spacing) The difference in WMS surface is made up by the hubs. The cab and chassis axle uses dually hubs to move the wheels inboard, the springs are in the same location as the SRW 1 ton axle (you can convert a SRW axle to a C&C by changing to dually hubs and moving the backing plates inboard, the axles are identical). A cab and chassis axle is a bolt in deal on a 1 ton pick-up, the inner duals will not rub on the springs or the frame. The only modification that will possibly be needed is the inner wheel well/bed floor. Look at the picture, the outer dual is out side of the outer wheel opening wheel, so the full width of the duals is not completely under the bed. This is a fairly common modification.

So just to reiterate....

All one tons (DRW, SRW, and C&C) have the same spring spacing
while all 1/2 and 3/4 tons have wider spring spacing.

You can not bolt a one ton rear axle into a 1/2 or 3/4 ton or vice-versa. You would need to either change spring hangers or relocate the spring perches on the axle tubes.

And I'm about 95% positive that the C&C frames are the same width as all other trucks, they are just longer from the back of the cab to the rear axle.

Re: Is this dually Factory or "homemade"?

really i was always told a c&c had a skinnier frame width and you had to specify which you had to get a flatbed even. i retract my previous then i was told wrong.

I have found info on the 'net saying these were dealer modified possibly as company fleet vehicles. I don't know how true it is....

somewhere on here there is a copied page from a Chevy assembly manual. I will look for it, but I remember all the frames being the same width.

Re: Is this dually Factory or "homemade"?

The frame may be shaped differently too. I think the C&C frame might be flat in top (so bolting on a box or flatbed would be simpler) while the regular pick up frame is raised up slightly over the axle.

Re: Is this dually Factory or "homemade"?

do you know the width of your frame? that would make it easy to find out. i dont think there was any raised spot over the axle on either though. id have to look again.

Re: Is this dually Factory or "homemade"?

the truck could be a full width dually with a axle, bed swop, and a paint job
it could be a single rear wheel with an axle swop, and hub swop on front end
or its a cab and chassis with a new bed and a paint job

there is a way to tell. the vin's first 3 digits first digit being a 1 for US or 2 for Canada then GB for cab and chassis
rpo codes might say something and that's if the glove box is original

I have 2 trucks 1 being a 87 r30 crew cab and chassis and the other a 88 v30 crew cab full dual. frame rails are the same, springs are the same, axle perches are the same. the only thing that was different when I put the cac axle on the 88 was the spring hangers from 2wd to 4wd this is where they add the lift for the 4wd to sit higher but it bolted right up
