Re: Best place for shackles?

I honestly watch ebay for stuff like this. I have found them NOS good old original GM parts for reasonable prices, often cheaper than the reproductions. If you do buy repro LMC trucks has been very good for me.

Re: Best place for shackles?

Is your truck a half ton (3100) a 3/4 ton (3600) or a 1 ton (3800)?

http://www.cs.siena.edu/~lederman/tr...delNumbers.htm These are the same for all 48-54 that I know of. They may not have had a "heavy duty" 3/4 ton (3700) I don't remember ever seeing that. But the 3100-3600-3800 are the same. 1/2, 3/4, 1 ton respectively.

So you think I would need that top part for the 3600?

Your truck as a 3100 is a 1/2 ton.

The 3600 is a 3/4 ton and I don't know if there is a difference.

Usually in a case like this I start checking other reliable sources to see if the parts fit the model I need them for.

Here, using the LMC Cheat sheet with 1/2 ton on this page http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/ca/full.aspx?Page=89 and the 3600 3/4 ton on page 90 you can compare parts numbers. I didn't say you had to buy their parts but LMC is an easy to use source for figuring out things like this. It looks like the front shackle kits are the same part number for 1/2 and 3/4 tons.

There is always that chance that you can get them locally for a reasonable price with no shipping too.

As an example this is what Napa shows for the pieces for a 52 3100 http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Re...25007/Ne-25000
You can plug in your zip code and get local list prices. They may or may not be reasonable compared to other vendors though.

Re: Best place for shackles?

Got ya. Actually my truck is a 1/2 ton and I just noticed my rear hubs are 8 lug. Also just went and picked up a front end from a guy today. It happen to be 8 lug also so I know which shackles to get now. Only problem I bet I have is finding wheels for the 8 lugs
