Inner door panel fastener type

Need to take the inner door panel off my 62' in order to see why my window won't roll up or down. I have many tools in my tool box but nothing like the tool needed. What do they call the type of screws used for the door panel. I am assuming they are stock GM fasteners. I can take a pic if needed. Thanks...Bullett

You should be able to use a phillips screwdriver. If they are stuck you can use a impact driver. If they are different send a pic so we can see what you have.

Clutch Head screws. Only place I found the drivers was TUCKERS. LMC truck has them #38-1259 or sockets 38-1257

Re: Inner door panel fastener type

I looked at clutch head screws on ebay, That doesn't appear to match up with what I have. I took a couple pics, which aren't very clear but hopefully clear enough.

Those look like tamper-proof torx ... definitely not original to this generation of truck.

Screwdrivers / bits are avilable to remove them. They look like a regular torx but have a hollow tip to clear the raised pin in the center of the screw heads.

The bits that came with cheap screwdriver have that hollow star /torx. Parts store should have those.

Re: Inner door panel fastener type

O.k., I thought it looked like a Torx type head but never seen such with a protrusion in the center. I will head to the tool store in the morning to see if I can find the correct tool. Why the heck would someone use these on an interior door panel? I guess as long as you have the correct tool, I guess they are probably fine.

Re: Inner door panel fastener type

Whoever put them in probably worked in a maintenance department where he obtained a surplus of them for free. I can't imagine why anyone would want those on a privately owned truck.

Re: Inner door panel fastener type

Just went to Auto Zone and found just what I needed. Dang, I have been turnin' wrenches a long time and never happened to come across these.

Thanks for the replies and pics. Much appreciated.

Next time u visit an Interstate rest room, notice the screws holding the stall-panels together--that's what they use, as those panels are nice sheets of stainless(Some could be aluminum, but still nice, and otherwise tempting to thieves.) Those things stink!
