Re: Another LSx/4L60e Swap (Done!!)
Wow, what a year! I am finally calling it done and I have to say... this thing is AWESOME!!! I wake up every morning looking foreward to driving it. Every time I turn it over Woosh!, it fires right up. The power that the 4.8 is fantastic and the overdrive + the 3.07 rearend makes for great highway cruising. At 75 mph it just kind of floats like my old caprice classic. Hit the gas and Bam! It rockets - I have pegged the speedo several times and I have to force myself to back off. It is so smooth and effortless to drive. I was asked today what year it was and I had to pause for a moment - I said well, most of it is a 76, but the doors are 85, crossover harness is 91, seats are 03, engine and transmission is an 06, hood is a 74, cluster is a 90, bezel is an 85, fenders are new, so...I guess it is a mutt. But damn, this thing is a blast to drive. I always tried not to post questions or PM before searching the board, but the bottom line is that I could not have done this without the knowledge of all of the contributers of this board. Thank you. If you are "on the fence post" about doing a swap I wouldn't hesitate. Do it!

Re: Another LSx/4L60e Swap
Way to go man, it looks awesome!! I definitely know the feeling of "I wake up every morning looking foreward to driving it". I love the idea of getting on the on-ramp, barely pushing the gas pedal, and be running faster than everyone else by the time I get on the interstate!
Truck looks awesome!! Now, go drive it like ya stole it!

Re: Another LSx/4L60e Swap
Thanks for the comments! I am supposed to give the truck back to my son who's back in college at Texas A&M, but I am having too much fun with it. He has my 07 Silverado with him now, but I would rather drive the 76 instead.
Battery tray - yup, I used an aux frame and tray from LMC ECM Mount - I had been using a mount from a camaro, but switched to this one (GM P/N 15071609 & 15047570) after I read this thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=414949. I took the bottom piece and trimmed it down with a cutting wheel until it mounts flat. The top cover still just pops on. |

He is in his 4th year, studying animal nutrition. Corp of Cadets I-1. My daughter graduated last year (I.D.), so yeah, got a bunch of Aggies!

Re: Another LSx/4L60e Swap
Very nice build! My truck has a 79 he painted the exact same color! He is even planning an LS swap when he finishes his shop.
I have to ask though, is the 4.8 enough? I have a 87 GMC V1500 longbed single cab 4x4 w/3.42 gears and 32" tall tire. I am wondering if it will have enough oomph and torque to roast tires and haul a 16' trailer if I need to. |
