Motor mounts??
What motor mounts are you using? I just cut out the ones I made 20 years ago and would like to buy/build something better.
Any pictures that you might have of yours would be great also. Thanks, Frank |

1.25'' square tubing and a piece of 3/8'' id tubing that i keep for such stuff
with 68 chevy truck v8 motor mounts, if you need to get them from auto zone and need a number easy peasy others that work well too parkwood's version. works well with camaro clip or stock frame or

I ended up getting a set of Transdapt 4505 Universal Street Rod Motor Mount Biscuit style for my truck. They looked like an easy way to go. Frank |

Im Looking To Put A V8 In My 51 GMC.. Have Stock Chassis. But My Manifolds Hit My Steering Box Bad.. I Have A 283 & A 350 ... Also Trans For Both. Im Going To Use A Loker Shifter For Trans. How Do You Install These SBC In A Stock Chassis? Do You Have To Use A Different Steering Colum Too?

shift engine to passenger side until it clears,that is the way we did it years ago. mopar did it for years.

I've thought about that 55dude. if I do that cause I see the motor mount bars are adjustable what about drive shaft an rear end alignment?

I had mine shifted to the passenger side for that same reasons. It will work but It drove me nuts every time I opened the hood. That's why I cut my old (home built) mounts out and bought universal street rod mounts. There's nothing wrong with offsetting the motor for clearance. Just as 55dude said, Mopar's been doing that with their big block motors for years. I've found that sometimes deciding how you're going to build it takes longer than actually getting the work done. u-joints take care of angles. all you need is 1/4" clearance off the manifold. i have purchased AD trucks that have had the steering boxes relocated that were scary. block hugger headers might work also. post some pictures of problem area and someone will chime in as this swap has been done....

Thanks for the kind words. I have a whole pile of junk metal that started out being projects but were scrapped because of bad welding. Practice, practice, practice, and a good tig welding machine.

Ah Hotrod1, now we know why everything you show that you have built yourself has that well thought out look rather than the "that will get me by" look. The could have got you by stuff is out back in the scrap pile. Well done on the motor mounts.
I'd have to say being able to fabricate nifty stuff requires the ability to visualize what you want along with the skills to put it together and most of all the patience to do it right. I've always had the ability to visualize things, my skills have very slowly developed over the past 50 years and my patience to do it right is just now coming into play.

rodger... are you centered? or offset? I seen ur bolted in ..did u drill ur frame? an are you going to use stock steering? Im Rubbing Bad on Drv Side. Who Did You Get Your Kit From?

Yes, the engine is centered. I drilled and bolted the brackets on and welded the tube to the brackets. I got the kit from CPP.
I'm using the new CPP 400 power steering box. |
