Trailing arm question for the experts.
The pictures don't look quiet as bad as they really are. The question is, Should I
a: Scrap'em and find some replacements. b: Por-15'em and let them ride. c: Use them for now, but replace them down the road. d: other I'm currently preping the frame and suspention for Por-15 (when it warms up a bit) and don't want to put more time into these if they're not worthy. Thanks in advance, Mike

Dinnut, they are the link between the frame and the rear end. They allow the rear end to pivot up and down as the suspension moves.

I would say use them and keep an eye out for some better ones, they are somewhat hard to come by though.

Thanks for the opinions guys.
6772king- How did you get the rust out? I've grinded some, wire wheeled some, saw-zawed some, even tried the beat it out with a screwdriver method all with a very little success for the time spent.

I would replace them, you can get decent used ones from someone else for a reasonable price. If you want to slavage them
the best way to do it IMO is to drill out the welds separate the halfs and grind the inside, then just weld them back together by running a bead in the groove where they join. You can also weld a plate to the upper and lower sides to make it stronger. |
