Switch power source options
I'm trying to figure out a few options for switch power for inside my truck. I have 4 additional things I'm needing hooked up, 1 camera monitor, Tach, extra 12v outlet and an amplifier. Are there any spare spots on the fuse panel or power sources that would be safe to tap into? My trucks an 84' with blade fuses.

Re: Switch power source options
I'm hooking up a tach this week and I expect to find at least one switched terminal in the fuse block. Sometimes they may have 2 extra terminals but that is usually about it. You may have to double up on a couple or possibly mount another small fuse block. Usually my Cadillacs don't have any accessory plugs in the fuse block. Caddy figures they already have everything and we don't need to add anything else lol.

Re: Switch power source options
Tyler, there may be some available slots in your fuse box. Depending on your accessories. IIRC most of the switched power leads are on the right side of the fuse box. You should be able to tap into them with either a standard blade type terminal or a stock type terminal end. If you don't have room in your fuse box, my suggestion would be to tap into the power at the junction on the firewall, run the wire through the firewall (with a grommet) into a secondary fuse block. The plus or minus to this is he power is no longer switched (unless you add one to the circuit)

Re: Switch power source options
I don't like to trust old wiring. I'd be inclined to run a fused length of 10g off of the battery and install a 4 gang remote fuse block.

Re: Switch power source options
Thanks for posting the cole-hersee link, Willett! As far as running the wire the extra length to the battery, I don't see the reason. The truck pulls all the power to the original fuse box from the junction on the firewall and it already has a fusible link built in.

Re: Switch power source options
It's up to you, but I personally don't like pulling any more power through the factory fuse block than I have to. I'm still running a 1978 glass fuse block and I have already replaced the nasty wires that I have found....
